Program Description

The Ageno School of Business at Golden Gate University is proud to offer a 12-month intensive executive MBA program in San Francisco. This program is designed to be highly innovative and strategically focused, based upon our experience in offering successful executive MBA programs for 24 years to over 1400 graduates.

Our accelerated program integrates strategic planning into each learning module to meet the needs of experienced executives, managers, professionals or business proprietors interested in developing business administration and leadership skills. As an executive MBA student, you will enhance your ability to think strategically, plan for an organization's future, analyze and recommend strategies, and develop a personal and professional direction for your career.

The executive MBA program begins with the classic mix of MBA skills and knowledge and adds unique yearlong projects in strategic planning and personal career development. The executive MBA program is designed around the following modules.


Preparation Module
This module prepares you for graduate-level study in managerial economics, financial accountings, business statistics and managerial finance through a self-study interactive CD as soon as you are admitted.

Module I - Foundation Module
The courses in this module cover the accounting, economics, organizational behavior and leadership and are essential to a fundamental understanding of how business report and understand their financial data, and basic skills required of all managers. Understanding this material provides the foundation on which strategic thinking and planning is built. The year-long seminars in strategy and career building begin in this module.

Module II - Functional Module
The courses in this module present finance, marketing and operations management so that students will have an understanding of the key functional areas of a business and begin working on the functional components of their overall strategic plan project. Students will use the coursework and projects and other assignments to build knowledge of key issues in each functional subject area.

Module III - Contextual Module
You begin work on the country overview and risk analysis for the international case study. The contextual classes of international management, business, government, and society will be relevant to the analysis for the country selected for the international study trip and for their strategic projects. You will also be finalizing draft recommendations and laying out the implementation plans for the strategic plans which will also be the focus of the integration workshop module.

Module IV - International Study Trip
A 8-10 day international study tour with site visits to organizations including those associated with the international case projects.

Module V - Integration Module
This module integrates course subjects from functional and contextual modules so that you can use the analysis to view the company as a coherent whole for developing the constituency strategic plan and career development projects. The focus of these sessions is the final development of the strategic plans and presentations due at the end of the course.

International Study Tour

During the 8-10 day study tour, you will have the opportunity to attend international business meetings and seminars, tour factories and meet people like you who bring a unique perspective to the business community in which they live and work. Your airfare, ground transportation and lodging are included in your tuition.

No GMAT Required
At least five years of managerial or professional-level experience replaces the GMAT and qualifies you to apply now. Admissions interviews are conducted throughout the year.

Executive Student Life

Our graduates tell us the executive MBA program is a truly rewarding life experience. You will work closely with other students - your peers from various business backgrounds and industries - learning from each other and establishing relationships that last a lifetime.

The executive MBA program is designed with your busy work schedule in mind, with classes meeting for two alternating weekends a month, Saturday and Sunday from 8 am to 6 pm at Golden Gate University's San Francisco campus. Between the monthly sessions, team-based dialog is required and executive students will average 30-40 hours or more per week for studying, communicating with team members and developing the projects. The program emphasizes a combination of traditional classroom learning with workshops and direct applications to real world projects.

All-inclusive tuition includes books and materials, with daytime meals provided on meeting days, and an international study tour, so you get the maximum learning experience without worrying about the details.

Admissions Requirements

Admission is selective and limited to individuals with practical experience from a variety of industries. Applicants are encouraged to submit all application materials simultaneously to ensure an admissions decision can be made before the deadline. To be considered for the program, you must complete and submit:
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and official transcripts from the degree-granting undergraduate institution and for any graduate work completed
  • A one-page application form and an application fee of $60 for domestic students, $100 for international students
  • A detailed resume showing at least five years of full-time managerial or professional-level experience
  • A written statement of purpose which explains your interests an how the executive MBA program will benefit your career
  • A letter of recommendation detailing how and why the executive MBA program fits for you at this time in your career, as well as your potential contribution to the program.
  • A personal interview with the executive MBA program director
  • A completed executive MBA program application form.

Program Courses

Courses are taught by senior faculty who bring superb academic preparation and corporate experience to the program. Executive students play an active role with the faculty and advisers in enhancing the learning process. Evaluation is accomplished through letter grades for each class and with a quarterly assessment of progression in the course modules and projects. The program ends with final presentations and reviews of the strategic plans by senior executives and program advisers.

Projects

While the core of the program is built around the classwork in the key business administration foundation and core subjects the unique feature of our program is the development of three simultaneous projects integrated into the academic program, including:

· A team-based consultancy project for a real organization that you will work on throughout the year.
· Executive coaching that integrates self-awareness with life and professional goals and the development of an individually tailored career-development plan that you will work on throughout the year.
· Team-based, international case analysis of select issues related to real organizations integrated into the international study tour and site visits.
