Information Technology Management

Edward S. Ageno School of Business

New Management of Healthcare Information Systems courses for Summer 2012:

ITM 396, Electronic Healthcare Records.

Taught by healthcare professional Carl Rowland, this course addresses the many complex factors involved in the federally mandated transition to electronic healthcare record systems. The IT professional needs to understand not only the systems themselves, but the complex social structure of the medical profession within which these systems are to be used. Students will address the regulatory environment driving the change to EHR systems. EHR systems also support new perspectives on competitive strategies for creating value both within an existing medical setting as well as in the larger medical arena. Students in this course are positioned to bring innovative value to Information Technology and medical business environments.

ITM 354, Healthcare Informatics, (formerly ITM 396F, Healthcare Business Modeling)

Instructor John Morales uses a custom database of public healthcare data to investigate healthcare events from a clinical perspective, including business rules, requirements and specifications. Interoperability issues (HL7 and HIPAA transactions) are addressed. There is an emphasis on structuring and analyzing data to address costs and to bring value to the organization, as well as to enhance competitive presence in the healthcare marketplace.

Instructor John Morales has over 15 years experience as a healthcare professional. Currently employed at Blue Shield of California as a senior trainer in actuarial and business intelligence, he has detailed experience in medical coding, custom configurations of systems, and is highly active in professional organizations involving medical data.

Program Description

The melding of business functions and information technology (IT) tools puts a premium on professionals who have theoretical and applied skills in both areas. Golden Gate University's undergraduate and graduate degrees in information technology offer you the opportunity to gain expertise in the interrelated areas of strategic information technology, application development and management, and network/telecommunications development and management.

Our degrees prepare you for a range of professional positions. You may aspire to be a CIO or CTO, and the Master of Science in Information Technology Management (MSITM) provides you those skills. You may desire generalist knowledge, with a broad background in both business and IT operations. You may wish to specialize in the development, implementation and use of current and evolving business-side applications. Or you may wish to gain a more technically-oriented knowledge of IT operations, including enterprise-level architecture, infrastructure, networks and telecommunications. The Bachelor of Arts in Management and Bachelor of Science in Business, each with a concentration option in information technology, and the MSITM degrees support your needs and your professional growth in all these areas.

Your Golden Gate University degrees ground you in both theory and application. They also afford you an opportunity to work in several state-of-the-art computer laboratories equipped with advanced software technologies.

Our degree programs are designed to equip you with an understanding of information systems theories and concepts, a working knowledge of current technologies and the ability to analyze and integrate future technology applications. By graduation, you will have an in-depth knowledge of IT systems and the skills to design, implement and manage their use within an organization, from a variety of levels and perspectives.

· Access to Visual Basic, Java, C/C++, Oracle, SAS, Visual .Net and other software
· Full connection to the Internet
· A Local Area Network using Novell
· Access to Windows, UNIX, LINUX and X-Windows
Professional Faculty

Our faculty members are all trained in the latest technologies and possess advanced degrees in information systems or related fields. The majority are practicing professionals. With their experiences, they provide valuable insight on IT concepts and theories, and how they can be applied to devise solutions to real problems. Our faculty members also regularly review and upgrade our curriculum to bring current technological innovations and theories into the classroom.
Distance Learning

We bring learning technologies into the classroom and to your computer to enhance the learning experience. Via the university's acclaimed CyberCampus, you can earn degrees completely online, or take specific courses to meet your needs. Face-to-face classes are enhanced by Web and other network technologies, and mixed-mode classes meet in both face-to-face and online environments.
