Operations and Supply-Chain Management
Edward S. Ageno School of Business
New course in Sustainable Business Operations for Fall 2011
OP 301: Sustainable Business Operations
In the Fall semester of 2011, the Ageno School of Business will be offering a new online course titled Sustainable Business Operations.
Business executives face ongoing pressure from their customers and from regulators to reduce carbon emissions and to run "greener operations," from product development to product disposal. To meet these challenges, leading organizations are implementing sustainability strategies and becoming leaders in "green" operations, as well as increasing profit. Here are several examples:
* Hewlett-Packard is reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 40%
* Starbucks will lower water consumption by 25% by 2015
* The Home Depot is reducing energy consumption by 20% per square foot
OP 301 addresses the design of strategic sustainability operation plans through to the execution of tactical sustainability operation programs. Using current reading materials, case studies, videos, online discussion boards, and best practice sustainability reports, the course will provide students with the skills to implement a sustainable business operation within an organization. The Operations and Supply-Chain Management Program
Operations and supply-chain management professionals impact the design and effective functioning of the organizations they
lead; their ability to help envision and formulate corporate strategies is fundamental to an organization's success.
There is no better place to learn the field than at Golden Gate University, where we have one of the largest and most comprehensive operations and supply-chain management program in California. If you want to work in the kind of industries that are the wave of the future, including high-tech manufacturing, engineering and construction, biotech, consumer products and apparel manufacturers as well as the enormous transportation and logistics industry, you'll find that we offer you a contemporary, leading-edge education.
Because operations and supply-chain management is multi-disciplinary, its scope ranges across the organization. Professionals in this field are responsible for the internal workings of their companies. These include product and process design, choosing appropriate technology, adopting efficient work methods, planning (including location and facilities layout), streamlining the flow of people and materials, and continuously improving the quality of the final product. Ultimately, operations and supply chain management professionals are responsible for creating internal and external customer value.
Golden Gate University is a pioneer in quality management education. You'll be taught by faculty who are leading operations professionals, and you will gain the knowledge, skills and tools to lead a successful career in this critical facet of business.
