State Grants
California state grants (Cal Grants) are awarded to undergraduate students by the California Student Aid Commission. Visit their website at
http://www.csac.ca.gov for complete information.
Cal Grants
The California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) administers grant programs for California residents. Awards are made annually for the fall, spring and summer terms. The application deadline is March 2 of the preceding award year (e.g., the deadline for the 2005-2006 academic year was March 2, 2005). Awards are made based upon both financial need and academic merit.
If you wish to be considered for a Cal Grant for fall 2006, and you haven't already done so, you must complete a 2006-2007 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at
http://www.fafsa.ed.gov by March 2, 2006. Be sure to
include GGU's Title IV school code, 001205, in step six of the FAFSA.
In the past, you were also required to submit a grade point average (GPA) verification form to our Records office. However, if you are an undergraduate who has completed at least 24 units at Golden Gate University as of Dec. 31, 2005, we will automatically send your GPA to CSAC.
If you haven't completed at least 24 undergraduate units, you should contact your previous institution. Please be aware that your previous institution may have different (i.e. earlier) deadlines to ensure timely processing.
Cal Grant A
Cal Grant A is intended to cover tuition and fee charges only. The maximum award which may be used at GGU is $4,854 per trimester. Awards are reduced proportionally for part-time and three-quarter time enrollment.
Cal Grant B
Cal Grant B provides tuition and fee assistance and a stipend to students from historically disadvantaged backgrounds. The awards for tuition and fees are up to $9,708 with the stipend varying in amounts of up to $1,551. The tuition and fee component is not paid until the student's second year. Cal Grant B awards are made only to new, entering freshmen.
