A $250 (US) non-refundable fee must accompany the application. (The fee is refundable to students who are not accepted into the program.)
Payment in full, or a letter from the student's home school's Financial Aid Office stating that the student has applied for and approved for financial aid to pay for the program, is due by April 28.
No credits will be awarded until payment in full is received.
The $250 application fee (due with the application) is not refundable (unless the application is rejected), but it will be applied to the program fee.
Except in the case of cancellation of the program, or academic disqualification from GGU (see below), payments made or due on or after April 28 are not refundable.
Golden Gate students who are academically disqualified after arriving in Paris may opt to remain in the program or withdraw. Students who withdraw will receive no refund on their housing charge, and must vacate the CIUP campus, but will receive a refund of tuition minus a $500 charge.
Circumstances under which the program is subject to cancellation:
- If the program is substantially under-enrolled, or if travel to France is deemed unsafe for US citizens, the program will be canceled. In the event of a cancellation, all students and applicants will receive immediate notification and a full refund within 20 days. We will use our best efforts to help place interested students in other programs.
- If Paris, France becomes an "area of instability" as defined by the United States State Department, students will be permitted to withdraw from the program. Students will receive a refund of fees paid, except for room payments utilized prior to the date Paris was declared to be an "area of instability."
- If, prior to the commencement of the program, a US State Department Travel Warning is issued for France, all registrants will be notified promptly of the warning and given an opportunity to withdraw from the program. Students who withdraw shall receive a full refund of all monies advanced within twenty (20) days after withdrawal. In the event the program is canceled, students shall receive a full refund of all monies advanced within twenty (20) days after the cancellation. If, during the course of the program, a US State Department Travel Warning is issued for France, students will be notified promptly of the warning and given an opportunity to withdraw from the program. Students who withdraw under these circumstances will receive a refund of all fees paid except for room payments utilized prior to the date of withdrawal. If the program is terminated, fees will be refunded, except for room payments utilized prior to the date the Travel Warning is issued.
Students and partners/spouses registered in the program will be covered by a French insurance policy that provides liability insurance. The policy also provides some medical coverage for accidents, but not for illness.
Students are responsible for securing basic medical insurance through a US insurance company.
Also, all students are expected to purchase an International Student ID card, which is available for $22 from STA Travel or at
www.myisic.com. The cost of the ISIC card includes emergency evacuation insurance, accident medical and dental insurance, travel document replacement, and minimal baggage delay and hospitalization for sickness coverage. It also provides many discounts on travel and entertainment, including museum admissions.

Access for People with Disabilities
The classrooms and law library at UPX are accessible for people using wheelchairs, as are the public rooms at CIUP. There are a limited number of accessible rooms available at CIUP, which may be reserved if not previously committed. French consciousness of the importance of providing access to people with disabilities is similar to that in the United States. Paris, however, is an old city, and its cobblestone streets and sidewalks, which often lack curb cuts, can be very challenging to navigate. Students with disabilities who wish to enroll in the program may wish to consult with the program directors regarding their specific needs to be sure they can be accommodated.
Golden Gate University School of Law, and the GGU/UPX Summer Program in Paris, are fully accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA).

Although wine and beer are frequently consumed in France, it comes as a shock to many American visitors that drunkenness (and particularly public drunkenness) is very rare, and considered a serious breech of decorum (as well as a crime). While many French men and women drink wine or beer at meals, it is usually treated as a food, and is consumed in moderation. Similarly, raised voices, loud and boisterous behavior, and aggressive gestures are rarely seen or heard in public places in Paris. Students participating in the program must display cultural sensitivity and conduct themselves in a manner that is acceptable in our host country.
