QUESTIONS FOR PROFESSOR OPPENHEIMER

Airports - CDG v Orly - by Jessica Giesen
Does anyone know if it is easier to fly in/out of CDG or Orly for a short weekend trip? Is one easier to get to from the dorms? Thank you!!
  • by Anne Deysine: Orly, definitely. Cheap bus round cornerof cité!!
  • by David B Oppenheimer: Orly is a little closer, and smaller, thus easier to deal with. Both connect to the RER B line, which goes to Cite U. Or, there is an express bus from Denfert, near Cite U, to Orly. But why would anyone want to leave Paris?
Gym Access? - by Brandi Ross
Although not academics related, I thought this might be a question on others' minds as well: does the university have a gym or something of the like that we will have access to? Just wondering if I'll have to jog around Paris! (although that might be kind of interesting!) Thank you!
  • by David B Oppenheimer: At the Cite International (where our dorms are), there are various athletic facilities, but we have not yet negotiated a monthly rate. There is also a beautiful parc adjoining the campus which is very popular with joggers. At the University of Paris X (Nanterre) campus, where we study, there is a swimming pool, gym, and track. Again, we need to negotiate a monthly rate. I'll do so when I return to Paris (May 21), or one of our Paris assistants will arrange for it.
  • by David B Oppenheimer: I have confirmed that you'll be able to buy a one month pass at CIUP to use the sports facilities (gym, pool, tennis, etc) for 15 Euros.
  • Medical certificate needed for gym access? by Helen Hartnell: I wonder if CIUP is still requiring that one present a certificate from you doctor saying that you are healthy and able to participate in sports? I seem to recall that this was required last year.
Internet access - by Autumn Dmytrewycz
Are there computer labs in the dorms, or internet cafes nearby, where we could check our email, etc.? Also, what type of Internet access is available in the dorm rooms? Wired, wireless, etc.?
  • by David B Oppenheimer: There is wired high-speed access in each dorm room, and wifi in the main building at CUIP. There is limited access through computer labs in one of the dorm buildings, and on the campus at Nanterre. There are some internet cafes in the neighborhood where the dorms are located, and many throughout various parts of Paris.
