Debra Estrem currently works for the Tax Controversy Group at Deloitte LLP. Before working at Deloitte, she spent 15 years at IRS Counsel, where she litigated a wide variety of estate, corporate, partnership, and individual issues. Debra is especially known for working successfully with the IRS to resolve complex estate and gift tax disputes, including valuation, interest deductions, claims and penalties. She also specializes in the examinations of tax exempt entities. In addition, she is an expert in obtaining voluntary disclosure agreements, technical advice and pre-filing agreements with the IRS appeals. Debra is a member of the Tax Section of State Bar of California, the San Francisco Tax Club, the Tax Litigation Club and the Tax Practitioners’ Panel. She has also practiced extensively before the United Sates Tax Court and is admitted to practice before the United Sates Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Debra holds a B.A. in Urban Planning from University of Washington, Seattle and a J.D. from University of California, Hastings College of the Law.
