Tax Summer Intern General

Job Description:

Under general supervision performs various assignments in the areas of accounting, tax, general business, finance, or other non-technical fields.


Position Duties/Responsibilities:

The summer intern will be expected to extract, analyze and compile financial data for tax return preparation purposes in the tax department at Bechtel Corporation, a large multinational corporation located in the financial district of San Francisco. This person will work as part of a team in developing tax returns and reports. Candidate will be exposed to various areas of the tax department (US Compliance, International and Planning) to allow for exposure to different processes that occur within the department and the finance group overall. Candidate will learn to work hands-on extracting information from various financial reporting systems, utilizing tools in a Microsoft environment and will be trained to use basic modules of a tax preparation software program (Thomson Reuters OneSource). A team environment and the extensive knowledge, background and support of the group will provide excellent exposure to anyone considering or pursuing a career in taxation.


Qualifications:
  • Should be enrolled in BA/BS program pursing an Accounting degree or pursuing an Economics degree with emphasis in Accounting (minimum 3.0 GPA cumulative); or enrolled in a graduate tax program (provided they have undergraduate accounting courses).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Any membership of clubs/organizations would help the candidate understand and share knowledge in a nurturing, team-oriented, working environment.
  • Positive communication skills are essential to maintain and ensure balance of work processes.
  • No relocation authorized for this position. Must have right to work in the U.S.

A small boutique CPA firm in Oakland with clients worldwide specializing in tax return preparation and planning for individuals, businesses, estates and trusts is looking for a staff accountant to prepare all types of income tax returns and be involved with research and planning for our diverse our clients.

Candidates must have 2 or more years of recent corporate or public accounting firm experience, technical tax knowledge, proficient with computers and business software, able to research and write technical tax memorandums and letters proficiently and interact smoothly with clients with a personal touch. Licensed California CPA and a masters/LLM in tax preferred, but not required. Although full time is preferred, working hours are flexible ‐ with the option of working remotely part of the time available.

Base salary, with significant incentive bonus based on production.
