Dean's Message

The Edward S. Ageno School of Business, like all of the schools at Golden Gate University, offers you a truly unique educational opportunity.

SAN FRANCISCO'S ORIGINAL BUSINESS SCHOOL

While many universities are just now moving their campuses to downtown San Francisco to be close to business and the professions, the Ageno School has been earning its reputation in educating adult working professionals over the last 110 years. We started as San Francisco's business school and have developed distinctive competencies based on the value proposition of relevant career-focused degree offerings using the principles of professional practice adult education and serving the needs of managers and professionals in San Francisco.

Over the last thirty years, we have evolved our reach beyond San Francisco through leveraging not only our downtown location and convenient access to the Bay Area transit system but also the development of our nationally recognized online course delivery platform: CyberCampus. In the process, we have become the preferred in-person and online professional practice business school for the entire San Francisco Bay area.

In the last decade, we began adding another chapter in our evolution toward becoming a truly international business school and currently attract students from over two dozen countries who have travelled to live and study in San Francisco at Golden Gate University. These accomplished and motivated international students coupled with the natural diversity of the students who live in the San Francisco Bay Area created a truly multinational educational environment.

VALUE FOR YOUR INVESTMENT

The San Francisco Bay area is home to one of the top three educated workforces in the world, and that means that your education is an important key to developing a successful career. Education is expensive, both in terms of the cost of tuition and books, but more importantly your time and the opportunity cost - you will most likely only get one undergraduate and one graduate degree. You should choose a school that gives you the right value for your investment. Every university has a different value proposition to offer and you need to consider which fits best for you when you make your choice.

The hallmark of all the schools at Golden Gate University is that our students make an immediate and measurable contribution as they enter or advance in their professions. At the Ageno School of Business our mission and core value proposition is that we prepare students for managerial and professional careers in a broad range of business fields through innovative programs that integrate theory with practical experience. This mission is embedded in our heritage. We were founded on the core belief that professional qualifications are as important as academic qualifications. We have developed over the decades a dedicated faculty that are both academically and more importantly professionally qualified - working professionals that have done or are doing that which they teach. They provide a unique blend of theoretical knowledge and professional practice incorporating current trends in business practice. Additionally, it is through our professional practice faculty that we help our students connect to networks that build liaisons and partnerships throughout the bay area business community. Lastly, Golden Gate University is a private, nonprofit institution - meaning that our sole focus is on the success of our students, not our shareholders.

RELEVANT CAREER-FOCUSED DEGREES

Since our beginning 110 years ago, we have been educating working professionals in preparation for their careers with an ever-expanding broad set of relevant and career focused degree programs to meet the changing needs of the professions. Our professional graduate degree programs range from the holistic perspective of the general manager with the master of business administration and master of public administration to a host of more focused master's degrees from such diverse perspectives as psychology and human resource management to the functional skills of finance, financial planning, marketing, integrated marketing communications, information technology, operations and project management. Within these degrees you can also focus on areas such as health care, international business, sustainability, conflict resolution, operations and supply chain management, and public relations.

In each program, the curriculum is designed to blend theory with practical insights to get you up and running - applying the skills and knowledge from the classroom into your work environment to produce positive results in your career. And throughout all our programs we will give you the understanding of the ethical, social, governmental, environmental, international and legal issues that make up the context within which businesses and organizations compete and operate.

MEETING THE NEEDS OF WORKING PROFESSIONALS

Educating working professionals requires that we meet the changing needs of working professionals. In today's world, time is crucial. Our in-person classes are conveniently scheduled in the evenings and on weekends leveraging close proximity to the Bay Area's mass transportation systems or our on-site programs at your workplace. We also use educational technology as an enabler to bridge time and place in bringing the classroom to you via our online CyberCampus and by integrating online activities within our in person classes. But while educational technology and convenient classes are important, working professionals need excellent customer service as well. We use a dedicated staff of student advisors to help you navigate through the business processes, figuring out what courses to take in what sequence, and provide counsel on how to manage balancing the pressures of work, study and family, help you plan your career, write your resume, find an internship and prepare you for your next job search.

SUPPORTIVE, MULTICULTURAL PROFESSIONAL NETWORK

The students that join us at Golden Gate University share several common traits. They are experienced, multicultural and serious about their educations. The increasing number of students that come from around the world to study at the Ageno School of Business offer unique insights into the variety of life experiences, business backgrounds and cultures from throughout the globe and fosters an understanding and appreciation of multinational diversity. More and more, our students are discovering the value of studying in this challenging and supportive learning environment and building a truly global network during their educational programs.

Our mission is our promise to our students, and as a nonprofit university it is also our value proposition to society as a whole. If we are not meeting your expectations then call, write or email me and let me know.
