Golden Gate Trial Advocacy Team Wins ABA Regional Competition; Will Compete in Nationals in January
Golden Gate Law has won the Sixth Annual American Bar Association Section of Labor and Employment Law San Francisco Regional Trial Advocacy Competition and will participate in the Section's National Final Competition in Washington, DC, in January. The Golden Gate team members are Amy Erb, Scott Prosser, Lindsey Scott, and Anitra Zobeck, who were mentored by Professor and Litigation Program Director Bernard Segal and coached by alumnus Duncan Lemmon (JD 96), an associate at Connor & Bishop.

Theme of November 13 Environmental Law Symposium Is Farming and Food
The School of Law will host a symposium on Friday, November 13, titled "Farming and Food: How We Grow What We Eat," 9 am-4:30 pm. Topics include Feedlot Runoff, Organic Certification, Irrigation Subsidies, Genetically Modified Crops, and the Mexico-U.S.Corn Trade. Cosponsors include the Environmental Law Sections of the State Bar of California and the Bar Association of San Francisco and Fitzgerald, Abbott & Beardsley LLP. 4.5 hours of MCLE credit available. PBS Documentary Explores GGU Environmental Law & Justice Clinic Clients and Clinic Case
For several years, the School of Law's Environmental Law & Justice Clinic has represented Native American grassroots organizations in Arizona working to fund more sustainable renewable energy projects using solar and wind power on their land. A new PBS documentary, Power Paths, hosted by actor Maggie Gyllenhaal and narrated by actor Peter Coyote, includes commentary by tribal leaders and GGU Professor Alan Ramo on their legal efforts. The independently made documentary first aired Nov. 3 and will air again at 9 pm PST Sunday, Nov. 8. The video is available for viewing online through November 10 at Power Paths.

Karen L Hawkins, Executive Director of the IRS Office of Professional Responsibility, to Speak Nov. 23
Alumna Karen Hawkins (JD 79, MBA-Taxation 81), executive director of the Office of Professional Responsibility at the Internal Revenue Service who was chair-elect of the American Bar Association Section of Taxation before her current appointment, will speak on campus Monday, November 23, from 5 to 6 pm. Priscilla Camp (JD 77) Receives Lifetime Achievement Award from Legal Assistance for Seniors
Priscilla Camp, a partner in the Oakland-based firm of Camp Rousseau Montgomery LLP, has received the 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award from Legal Assistance for Seniors. The award was presented at an awards dinner in late October by The Honorable Carol A. Corrigan, Associate Justice of the California Supreme Court. Camp is a former director and board member of Legal Assistance for Seniors and is a founder of Women Lawyers of Alameda County, Bay Area Lawyers for Individual Freedom, and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys.

Golden Gate University Honors Law School Alumnus Michael J. Robertson, Former Top Campaign Advisor to Barack Obama and Current GSA Chief Acquisitions Officer/White House Liaison
Michael J. Robertson (JD 04) held key roles in then-Senator Barack Obama's Senate office before becoming Director of Congressional Affairs for Obama's presidential campaign. He runs the Office of Governmentwide Policy and is Chief Acquisitions Officer for the US General Services Administration, where he serves as White House Liaison. On Oct. 22, he received Golden Gate University's 2009 "Rising Star Award" and spoke with students about his campaign experiences and his responsibilities at the GSA.

Alumnus and Noted Environmental Lawyer Buzz Hines to Co-Chair ABA Annual Meeting in 2010
School of Law alumnus Robert "Buzz" Hines (JD 85), a partner at Farella Braun + Martel LLP and former chair of the firm's Environmental Law Department, will co-chair the 2010 Annual Meeting of the American Bar Association, to be held in August in San Francisco. Read the press release. In addition, Dean Drucilla Stender Ramey will serve on the 2010 ABA Annual Meeting's Host Committee.

Law School Partners With Public Interest Clearinghouse
The School of Law and Public Interest Clearinghouse (PIC) have formed a partnership to run the PIC's pro bono program at GGU. Through the PIC, GGU students will have access to an online database, receive a weekly newsletter, and can work with a dedicated AmeriCorps fellow at the PIC to find the right project.
