Golden Gate University School of Law - 1960-1989

1960Dean Paul Jordan retires.

John A. Gorfinkel is appointed Dean.
1964Golden Gate College buys the Allyne Building at 536 Mission Street, built in 1926.

Renovations begin on the first two floors. (The top three floors are leased to other tenants until 1967.)

The Law School begins a three-year day program for full-time students.

December: The Law School and Law Library move into the lower two floors of 536 Mission Street.
1967The Law School begins awarding the Doctor of Jurisprudence degree instead of the Bachelor of Laws.

1968Renovations are completed, and the rest of Golden Gate College moves into 536 Mission Street.


In 1972, Golden Gate College becomes Golden Gate University.
1969Lani Bader is appointed Dean.
1971The Law School receives full accreditation by the American Bar Association.
1972Golden Gate College becomes Golden Gate University.
1973Lani Bader steps down as Dean.


Judith McKelvey becomes the Law School Dean, the second woman in the United States to be named Dean of a law school.

1977April: Groundbreaking ceremonies are held for new six-story "west wing" building to connect to existing 536 Mission Street building.
