Applying to Honors Lawyering Program
How do I apply to HLP?
On the
Application for Admission, check the box indicating that you would like to apply to the Honors Lawyering Program. The Admissions Committee considers academic performance as well as work and life experience. The application process may also include a telephone interview.
Current students: Full-time 1L students may apply to join HLP. An Information Meeting will be held on
Friday, January 13, 2012 from noon to 1:00 in Room 3208. At that meeting, HLP staff, faculty, and upper-class students will discuss the program and the transfer process. Application forms are available in Law Career Services and will be due on January 30, 2012 at noon. Please feel free to call (415) 369-5318 with any questions.
Eligibility
Acceptance to HLP is competitive and based on information in your application packet. The HLP Committee considers a variety of factors in the transfer application process, including students' demonstrated success in law school, professionalism, collegiality, volunteerism, high ethical standards, academic enthusiasm and ability to perform successfully in a professional setting.
Part-Time Students
Part-time students may apply to transfer to the full-time Honors Lawyering Program under limited circumstances.
Joint Programs
- Students enrolled in the JD/MBA program are eligible for HLP. They should consult with the Director of Student Services regarding their schedules.
- Students enrolled in the JD/PhD program are not eligible for HLP due to a conflict in academic schedules.
