Vulnerable Populations and Economic Realities: An interdisciplinary approach to law teaching

Golden Gate University School of Law and the Society of American Law Teachers are holding a two-day Poverty Law Conference in San Francisco on March 19-20, 2010. The event will be held at Golden Gate University School of Law, located at 536 Mission Street, San Francisco, California. This event will bring together new data and theories from the social sciences, communications and media, and legal education about our most vulnerable populations for use in law teaching across the curriculum. The conference will consider these issues from the perspectives of interdisciplinary academics, practitioners, and activists.

The conference will offer keynote speakers as well as presentations and sessions designed to foster group discussion. On Friday, March 19, the keynote panel will be led by Paul Butler, Professor of Law at George Washington University Law School and author of Let's Get Free: A Hip-Hop Theory of Justice. On Saturday, March 20, the keynote speaker will be John Payton, President and Director-Counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. Mr. Payton successfully argued on behalf of the University of Michigan in two recent landmark Supreme Court cases regarding diversity in higher education.

This exciting event will be open to the GGU Community and interested members of the public. Conference registration will begin in early 2010. If you have any questions about the conference, please contact Professor Michele Benedetto Neitz at MNeitz@ggu.edu.
