Degree Requirements

The LLM in Intellectual Property Program features up-to-date instruction in traditional fields including copyright, patent and trademark law; in cutting-edge fields such as biotechnology law and content licensing for the web; and in the creative arts with courses in fine arts, entertainment, and sports law.

Program Requirements
To earn the LLM in Intellectual Property Law degree, students must complete 24 units. Classes are offered during the day as well as during the evening to accommodate working professionals. Students may attend full-time and complete the program in as few as two semesters. Alternatively, students may attend part-time. All students must finish the degree requirements within three years of matriculation.

LLM students must maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale each semester. The grade scale is:

A minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 is required to complete the program. Students who complete the program with a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above graduate with honors.

LLM students must take nine units from the courses listed below:

Intellectual Property Law Survey (3 Units)
Internet and Software Law (3 Units)
Plus one of:
Copyright Law of the US (3 Units)
Patent Law of the US (3 Units)
Trademark Law of the US (3 Units)
Elective Courses
LLM students earn the balance of the 24 units by completing additional courses selected from the LLM in Intellectual Property Law curriculum.
