Graduate Law Programs Dean's Welcome

Central to the practice of law in the new millennium is an understanding of the principles of intellectual property (IP) law. In an age dominated by the development, distribution and protection of information and ideas, lawyers play an essential role in supporting those endeavors.

Whether you are a new law school graduate, an attorney from another country, or an experienced practitioner seeking to acquire or broaden your knowledge of IP law, the LLM in Intellectual Property Law Program at Golden Gate University School of Law will provide you with that knowledge. The program, taught by experienced practitioners and full-time faculty members who specialize in IP law, emphasizes a practical approach to the field.

The program offers students the opportunity to draft agreements and litigation documents, to learn negotiating tips and strategies, and to delve deeply into the areas of patent, trademark and copyright, with semester-long courses in both domestic and international IP law. With courses offered in entertainment, sports, and art law, the program offers an unprecedented level of instruction in legal issues relating to the creative arts. Students also get up-to-the-minute instruction in new fields such as biotechnology law, Internet and software law, and content licensing for the Web.

Our goal is to provide students who complete the LLM in IP program with a solid base of knowledge and practical skills that will allow them to ably represent clients, and to make a positive contribution in all areas of IP practice. Come join us in the study of this fascinating, ever-changing field of the law!
