The Nigerian Studies Association held its 2010 Annual Mini Conference on Thursday November 18, 2010.// The theme of the Conference was: NIGERIA AT FIFTY. The conference opened at 10.00 AM in Room 5210 at the 536 Mission Street - Academic Building of Golden Gate University. The President of the Association, Professor Dr. Christiana Okechukwu of Montgomery College, Rockville, Maryland graciously requested the Golden Gate University Community attend this very important event.

Distinguished Nigerian Scholars in diaspora made presentations on different important topical issues affecting Nigeria at 50. Nigeria is one of the most populous and powerful, if not the most populous and important black nation on the globe.

An array of Distinguished Speakers and their topics follows:
  • Professor Dr. Christian Nwachukwu Okeke, Conference Chair, GGU - Nigeria's Theory and Practice of International Law at 50.
  • Professor Adebowale Adefuye, Nigerian Ambassador to the United States of America - Nigeria at 50: Retrospect & Prospects.
  • Professor Dr. Christiana Okechukwu, Montgomery College - Empowering the Youths in the 21st Century Nigeria.
  • Professor Dr. Olayiwola Abegurin, Howard University, Washington D.C. - The Development and Historical Analysis of Nigerian Foreign Policy at 50.
  • Professor Saheed Aderinto, Western Carolina University - Policing Human Trafficking in Post-Independent Nigeria.
  • Professor Dr. Hakeem Tijani, Baylor University, Waco, Texas - Moderator and Discussant.
Thanks to all attendees for gracing this important event with your most esteemed presence and welcoming our August visiting distinguished Nigerian Scholars in diaspora to GGU School of Law. The Nigerian Ambassador to the United States of America participated and made a presentation at the Conference.
