Areas of Concentration
Students in the LLM in US Legal Studies Program can focus on a variety of legal specialties:
  • Corporate and Commercial Law
  • Immigration Law
  • Labor and Employment Law
  • Litigation and Lawyering Skills
  • Property Development / Real Estate Law
  • US Legal Practice
General Information
Students must achieve and maintain a 2.5 GPA in the chosen area(s) of concentration. Two or more concentrations may be taken in the LLM in US Legal Studies Program. For each concentration, students must successfully complete the concentration course requirements. All concentration coursework must be completed before graduation; your diploma and your transcript will list all concentrations successfully completed.
Core Courses
LLM US in Legal Studies students must complete the following core required courses, for a total of 8 units:
  • Introduction to the US Legal System (3 units)
  • Graduate Legal Writing and Research (2 units)
  • Directed Study, Thesis, Curricular Practical Training, or Clinic (3 units)
The remaining 16 units may be taken in a concentration or in an individually designed program a student creates with his or her adviser.

Graduates of ABA-or California-accredited law schools may waive required courses with adviser's permission. Students choosing a concentration must satisfy the concentration requirements.

  1. Required: LAW 715A Property I (3 Units) and/or LAW 715B Property II (3 Units) (waived if taken at a US law school)

Chris Pagano, Program Adviser

Students may take up to 6 units in environmental, intellectual property, international, or tax law, but those wishing to take more than 6 units in those subjects must have the approval of the US Legal Studies faculty program adviser.
