The JD Admissions Process and Deadline
It is each applicant's responsibility to ensure that all documents are received by the Admissions Office on time. It is to your advantage to apply early.
- The JD Program Application Deadline for fall 2010 admission to the full-time day program is April 1, 2010. The deadline for applying to the part-time evening program is June 1, 2010. Applications are now available.
When your file is complete, it is forwarded to the Admissions Committee. All admissions decisions are sent to the applicant via USPS mail.
In order to enroll in law school, you must have obtained your undergraduate degree by the first day of new student orientation. You are required to submit official transcripts reflecting your undergraduate degree and the conferred date. Golden Gate University School of Law will withdraw offers of admission from applicants who cannot show proof of a conferred undergraduate degree. All admissions decisions are final.
The Admissions office communicates with applicants primarily by e-mail. It is your responsibility to notify the office in writing of any changes in your mailing address, email or telephone numbers. The Admissions Office e-mail address is
lawadmit@ggu.edu and the telephone number is 415-442-6630 or 1-800-GGU-4YOU.
Application for Admission
We strongly prefer that applicants utilize the electronic application available now on the Law School Admission Council (LSAC)website. You may, however, obtain an application in three ways:
- Use the preferred application service offered through the LSAC website.
- Click HERE to download the Fall 2010 JD Program application as a PDF file. Acrobat Reader is required. (Download Acrobat Reader)
- Send an e-mail message to lawadmit@ggu.edu to request an application packet and printed admissions materials.
A $60 processing fee must accompany your application. Checks or money orders should be made payable to Golden Gate University. Your name and social security number or LSAC Account Number should appear on the front of the check.
As an incentive to apply early, Golden Gate Law will waive the $60 application fee for prospective students who apply online before December 31.
After January 1, 2010, applicants with financial hardship may request a waiver of the $60 processing fee. To request a waiver, include with your application a written request that describes your financial hardship. Supporting documentation will be required. Documentation can be a current financial aid award, income tax return, or LSAT/LSDAS Fee Waiver.
The application fee is non-refundable.
The Office of Admissions requires each applicant to submit a personal statement that is no more than two double-spaced pages, typed in 12-point font. This is your opportunity to address the Admissions Committee, share your motivation for attending Golden Gate University School of Law, and describe the personal characteristics and professional achievements that you will bring to the law school community. You should also discuss why you will be a successful law student and lawyer. The committee will also consider an applicant's ethnicity, race, employment history, volunteer activities, community involvement, sexual orientation, gender identity, and socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
You are welcome to submit any brief addenda that will assist the Admissions Committee in assessing your qualifications for enrolling in law school.
Law School Admission Test (LSAT) & Law School Data Assembly Service (LSDAS)
All applicants seeking admission to the JD Program must take the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) administered by the Law School Admission Council (LSAC). The Admissions Committee prefers to consider LSAT scores that are not more than three years old, and in no case will the committee consider a score more than five years old. Detailed information about the test is contained in the Law Services Registration and Information Book. Golden Gate Law does not distribute this information, but you can obtain it at any college or university, or from the LSAC directly. Visit the
LSAC site.
Letters of Recommendation
A minimum of two letters of recommendation (and a maximum of four) are required. All letters of recommendation must be submitted to the Law School Admission Council as part of the LSDAS registration subscription. Go to the
LSAC website.
Re-application to the School of Law
The School of Law retains application files, including all supporting documents, for one year. If you are not admitted and choose to reapply, you will need to submit all new materials including the application form, personal statement, resume, application fee, and complete LSDAS report.
