The JD Admissions Process and Deadline
It is each applicant's responsibility to ensure that all documents are received by the Admissions Office on time. It is to your advantage to apply early.
  • JD Program Application Deadine (Note: Deadline is a postmark deadline) for Fall Day and Evening Program: April 1, 2008.
When your file is complete, it is forwarded to the Admissions Committee. All admissions decisions are sent to the applicant via USPS mail.

If you apply to the School of Law, you must have obtained your undergraduate degree by the first day of class. You are required to submit official transcripts reflecting your undergraduate degree conferred date. Golden Gate University School of Law will withdraw admissions offers to applicants who cannot show proof of a conferred undergraduate degree. All admissions decisions are final.

The School of Law communicates with applicants primarily by e-mail. You should notify the Admissions Office in writing of any address changes, providing your full name, date of birth, current and former addresses, and current and former telephone numbers. The Admissions Office e-mail address is lawadmit@ggu.edu and the telephone number is 415-442-6630 or 1-800-GGU-4YOU.
Application for Admission
We strongly prefer that applicants utilize the electronic application available with LSAC. You may, however, obtain an application in three ways: Note: This is a PDF file. Acrobat Reader is required. (Download Acrobat Reader).
  • Send us an e-mail message to lawadmit@ggu.edu to request a printed catalog and application package.
Application Fee
A $60 processing fee must accompany your application. Checks or money orders must be made payable to Golden Gate University. Your name and social security number or LSAC Account Number should appear on the front of the check.

After January 31, applicants with financial hardships may also request a waiver of the $60 processing fee. To request a waiver, include with your application a written request that describes your financial hardship. Supporting documents that verify your current financial hardship must be included. Documentation can be a current financial aid award, income tax return, or LSAT/LSDAS Fee Waiver.

The application fee is non-refundable.
Personal Essay
The Office of Admissions requires the submission of a personal statement no more than three double-spaced pages, typed in 12-point font. This is your opportunity to address the Admissions Committee and share your motivation for attending law school and why you wish to attend Golden Gate University School of Law. You should also address why you will be a successful law student and lawyer. Additionally, the committee will consider an applicant's ethnicity, race, employment history, volunteer experience, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.

You are welcome to submit any brief addenda that will assist the Admissions Committee in assessing your record.
Law School Admission Test (LSAT) & Law School Data Assembly Service (LSDAS)
All applicants for admission as JD candidates must take the Law School Admission Test (LSAT), which is administered by the Law School Admission Council (LSAC). The Admissions Committee prefers not to consider LSAT scores that are more than three years old, and in no case will the committee consider a score more than five years old. Detailed information about the test is in the Law Services Registration and Information Book. Golden Gate University does not mail this information, but you can obtain it at any local college, university, law school, or from LSAC directly. Visit the LSAC website at LSAC site.
Letters of Recommendation
A minimum of two letters of recommendation is required (maximum of four). All letters of recommendation must be submitted to the Law School Admission Council as part of the LSDAS registration subscription. Go to the LSAC site.
