Visiting Students
If you have successfully completed at least one year of study at another ABA-approved law school, you may apply to attend Golden Gate Law as a visiting student. To apply as a visiting student, you must provide the following:
  • Application for Transfer or Visiting Students
  • Non-refundable $60 application fee

Application for Admission
We strongly prefer that applicants utilize the electronic application available on the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) website. You may, however, obtain an application in three ways:
  • Use the preferred application service offered through the LSAC website..
  • The application for fall 2011 will be available after May 1.
  • Send an e-mail message to lawadmit@ggu.edu to request an application packet and printed admissions materials.
Application Details
  1. Complete and submit the application form during the stated application period.

  2. Application Fee
Checks or money orders for $60 should be made payable to Golden Gate University. Write your name and social security number on the front of your check or money order.

  3. Law School Documents
All visiting and transfer applicants must submit their law school transcripts as part of the application. Transfer students must also provide syllabi for all law school coursework. Visiting students are also required to complete a consortium agreement. (See Consortium Form.)

  4. Personal Essay
The personal essay is your opportunity to address the Admissions Committee. Your personal essay is a writing sample and should explain your reasons for enrolling in law school and for wanting to visit or transfer to Golden Gate Law. It should be polished, well organized, and no longer than two double-spaced pages, typed in 12-point font.

Please do not submit books, tape recordings, plays, theses, dissertations, or other materials in lieu of or in addition to the personal essay.

  5. Letter of Good Standing
A letter of good standing is required for every transfer/visiting student. If you cannot obtain a letter of good standing, your file will be considered incomplete and you will receive an unfavorable decision.

For visiting students, the letter of good standing should certify that the credits you earn at Golden Gate University School of Law will be applied toward satisfaction of your home law school's degree requirements. Visiting students may not request an Incomplete grade or other privileges afforded regular Golden Gate Law University students.

  6. Letter of Recommendation
Transfer and visiting student applicants must submit at least one letter of recommendation from a law school professor. We strongly discourage letters of recommendation from friends, acquaintances, and/or family members who can attest only to issues of personal character.
» Download the Letter of Recommendation form (pdf).

  7. Acceptance Deposit
Upon notification of admission to the Golden Gate Law, you will be required to make a non-refundable deposit of $300 to secure your seat in the entering class. All deposits will be credited toward your initial tuition payment.
Financial Aid for Transfer and Visiting Students
