    Adjunct Professor Michael Burnstein specializes in tax and estate planning as well as advising tax-exempt organizations. He is a former partner with Schiff Hardin LLP, a Chicago-based national law firm, and the founder of Zaffre Law, a modern estate planning and tax law firm in San Francisco.

    Professor Burnstein currently teaches Generation-Skipping Transfer Tax. In the past he has taught Tax Aspects of Charitable Giving and Income Taxation of Estates and Trusts. Professor Burnstein has served on the Trusts and Estates Section Executive Committee of the California State Bar from 2010 to 2012. He was the President of the San Francisco Estate Planning Council. Professor Burnstein obtained a BS in finance from St. John's University, a JD and MBA from St. John's University, and an LLM (tax) from New York University. Professor Burnstein is a former attorney-advisor to the Honorable Maurice B. Foley of the United States Tax Court.
