Why are no Financial Aid Awards Listed?
There are two main reasons why you may not see Financial Aid awards listed:
- You are not admitted to a degree program. Check your Admission Status. Note that Open Enrollment students are not eligible for financial aid.
- Your financial aid file is incomplete. To view missing documentation, go to My Documents in the GGU4YOU Student menu.
Can I register for classes if my Financial Aid Award is not listed?
If you have not yet been offered and accepted your financial aid offer, or if your award amount does not cover the total tuition amount, you must pay the balance of your tuition or make other payment arrangements at the time of registration.
When may I register using the financial aid postponement option?
Once you have received an award letter stating what you are eligible to borrow or receive, you must accept or decline the offers, sign the letter and return it to the financial aid office. As long as the awards will cover the tuition for that trimester, you may register for courses. If your award amount does not cover the total tuition amount, you must pay the balance of your tuition or make other payment arrangements at the time of registration.
What are the award amounts based on?
The Award Letter you received contains the maximum amount of financial aid we can offer you at Golden Gate University. The amounts are based on federal and state law as well as institutional policy. To learn more on the subject of eligibility, review the
Financial Aid Office website.
I want to change the amount of loans that I want to receive. How do I do it?
You may only do this on your Award Letter, which was mailed to you. You can view your award letter here (or see
Financial Aid Award Letter under the Student menu). You can decrease the amount accepted, or you can decline any award. However, you cannot increase the amounts on the Award Letter, since you have already been awarded the maximum according to law.
My enrollment (number of units) has changed since I was offered aid. Will this affect my awards?
- If you increase the number of units you enroll for, you may be able to receive more aid, depending on your Earned Family Contribution (EFC) and the maximum awards.
- If you decrease the number of units you are enrolled for, you may not be eligible for the total aid offered you.
- If you enroll less than half time, you are not eligible for financial aid, except for Pell grants (if you are an eligible undergraduate).
You should immediately notify your financial aid counselor, in writing, if your enrollment status changes. You may email us at
ggu4you@ggu.edu (Subject: Financial Aid Question) and clearly state any changes. Please remember to include your student ID number.

I see the term REJECTED next to an award under the ACTION column. Why?
This will appear if you declined an award or if you were ineligible for any reason. If you have questions, contact Financial Aid.
I was offered Stafford Loans. Do I need to complete a separate loan application?
You loan will be electronically certified based on acceptance of your award letter. If you are a first-time borrower at Golden Gate, your guarantor will mail you a Master Promissory Note (MPN), which you must return to your lender. You will only need to complete the MPN once while enrolled at Golden Gate University.
I am a first-time borrower of federal funds (subsidized or unsubsidized Stafford Loan) at Golden Gate University. I accepted the awards, signed and returned my award letter. Is there anything else I need to do?
As a first time borrower, you must complete an
Entrance Loan Counseling quiz that will assist you in understanding your rights and responsibilities as a borrower. You may accomplish this online at our
Federal Financial Aid website. Go to the Entrance Counseling section for links to sites that offer loan counseling. Take the Entrance Counseling quiz and make sure you list Golden Gate University to ensure that we get electronic confirmation that you've successfully completed the quiz. You only need to complete this requirement once while attending Golden Gate University.
Law Students should refer to the
Online Entrance Loan Counseling Instructions.
When will I get my financial aid funds?
Once we have received the funds from your lender, they will be posted directly to your student account automatically to offset any balance you may owe. If a credit balance occurs, Student Accounts will mail you a refund within 10 business days of posting the funds.
