Why are there no financial aid awards listed for me?
There are two main reasons why you may not see Financial Aid awards listed:
- You are not admitted to an eligible degree program. Check your Admission Status. Note that Open Enrollment and provisionally admitted students are not eligible for financial aid.
- Your financial aid file is incomplete. To view missing documentation, view My Documents found on the GGU4YOU Student menu.
Can I register for classes if my Financial Aid Award is not listed?
If you have not yet been offered and accepted your financial aid offer, or if your award amount does not cover the registration charges, you must pay the balance of your tuition or make other payment arrangements by the payment due date for the term.
When may I register using the financial aid payment option?
Once you have accepted your award offers via GGU4YOU and completed all steps necessary to receive the aid, as long as the award amounts will cover your registration charges, you may register for courses. If your award amounts do not cover the total tuition charges, you must pay the balance of your tuition or make other payment arrangements by the payment due date for the term.
How do I cancel all of my Federal student loans after accepting the awards?
You have the right to cancel any and all students loans
prior to disbursement of the loans. You must request cancellation in writing via e-mail, fax or U.S. Post to the GGU Law School, Office of Financial Aid or GGU University Office of Financial Aid.
What are the award amounts based on?
Your award letter contains the maximum amount of financial aid we can offer you at Golden Gate University. The amounts are based on federal and state law as well as institutional policy and your enrollment status based on course units. Please note that award amounts you see on your award letter for all Federal Loans reflect amounts borrowed (and must be repaid), NOT the actual amount that will be disbursed to your account. An origination fee will be automatically deducted from the loan amount (except Perkins Loans). To learn more on the subject of eligibility, review the
Financial Aid Office website.
Law students may view information on the
Law Financial Aid Web page.
I want to change the amount of loans that I want to receive. How do I do it?
You may not increase the amounts of the awards, since you have already been awarded the maximum according to law. In order to decrease the amount of the awards, send a request to
finaid@ggu.edu.
Law students should send requests to decrease the amount of their awards to
lawfao@ggu.edu.
My enrollment status (course units) has changed since I was offered aid. Will this affect my awards?
- If you increase the number of units for which you are enrolled, you may be able to receive additional aid.
- If you decrease the number of units for which you are enrolled, you may not be eligible for the total aid offered to you.
- If you enroll less than half-time, you are not eligible for financial aid, except for Pell grants (if you are an eligible undergraduate student).
You should immediately notify the Financial Aid Office in writing if your enrollment status changes. You may email us at
finaid@ggu.edu and clearly state any changes. Please remember to include your student ID number.

Law students should call Federal Student Aid Programs at 1-800-4FED-AID.
I was offered Federal Loans. Do I need to complete a separate loan application?
Your loan will be originated based on acceptance of your awards. If you do not have an active Master Promissory Note (MPN) on file with Direct Lending, then you must complete it at
www.studentloans.gov. You only need to do this once during your continuous enrollment at Golden Gate University.
I am a first-time Federal Loan borrower at Golden Gate University. I accepted the awards online. Is there anything else I need to do?
You must complete an Entrance Loan Counseling session, which will advise you of your rights and responsibilities as a borrower. You must complete it online at
www.studentloans.gov. You only need to do this once during your continuous enrollment at Golden Gate University.
When will I get my financial aid funds?
Once we have received your financial aid funds, they will be credited directly to your student account automatically to offset any balance you may owe. If a credit balance results, Student Accounting Services will issue you a refund within 10 business days of the date the funds were credited.
How may I receive a refund of a credit balance by direct deposit into my checking or savings account?
Enter your bank account information into GGU4YOU using the
Bank Information page. Be sure to update your bank information if it changes. Financial Aid refunds will be issued automatically once your funds are credited to your student account if you have a credit balance for which you are eligible. For information about the timing of when the deposit will be made into your bank account, view the
Direct Deposit FQAs. For other credit balances, contact Student Accounting Services
