Financial Aid Help
Financial Aid by Term/Year
You may display your current financial aid status by selecting the applicable financial aid award period or year from the options presented in the drop-down list box. Click on Submit. The system will then display the financial aid information, including an up-to-date indication of its current status, for the award period or year you selected. You may print the data displayed on the form by using the print capability of your browser.
How to read your award summary:
- An "Active" status indicates that you have been offered and accepted financial aid by signing and returning your award letter to the Financial Aid Office. As long as the amount you accepted covers your tuition costs, you may register for courses.
Please note that award amounts listed for all Subsidized and Unsubsidized Stafford Loans reflect amounts borrowed (and must be repaid), NOT the actual amount that will be disbursed to your account. A 3% origination fee, which goes to the guarantor/originator of the loan, may be automatically deducted from the loan amount and will appear as Loan Orig Fees.
- An "Offered" status indicates aid was offered and we have sent you an award letter (or revised award letter), but we have not received a returned, signed copy in the Financial Aid Office. To expedite processing, you may fax both the front AND back of your signed award letter to 415-442-7819. Law students should fax both the front and back of your award letter to 415-442-6631.
If you have not received your award letter within 6 days from the date it was sent, you may print it out from GGU4YOU and fax it in. Or contact the Financial Aid Office at 415-442-7270 or ggu4you@ggu.edu (Subject: Financial Aid Question). Law students please contact your financial aid counselor at 415-442-6630 or lawfao@ggu.edu.
If you have moved recently or changed telephone number(s), please update your information on GGU4YOU or call our Records Department at 415-442-7200. Law students call 415-442-6620.
- A "Pending" status indicates pending disbursement of funds. If you are a first time borrower at Golden Gate University, you must complete TWO steps before loan funds can be posted to your student account
1. Shortly after your financial aid counselor certifies your loan(s), you will receive a Master Promissory Note in the mail, sent by the guarantor of your loan. Complete the Promissory Note, sign it, and send it back to your Lender. You only need to do this once during your continuous enrollment at Golden Gate University. Law students must complete a Master Promissory Note (available from the Law Financial Aid Office) before their counselor will certify their Stafford Loans
2. You must complete an Entrance Loan Counseling session, which will advise you of your rights and responsibilities as a borrower. You may accomplish this online. Links to the sites can be found at our Federal Financial Aid web page. You only need to do this once during your continuous enrollment at Golden Gate University. Law students please refer to the Online Entrance Loan Counseling Instructions.
- A "Canceled" status indicates it was canceled. Reasons include:
1. You are not registered.
2. You are enrolled less than half-time and therefore not eligible for the funds.
3. You did not complete the Entrance Loan Counseling and funds had to be returned to the lender.
- A "Returned" status indicates Stafford funds were returned to the lender. Reasons include:
1. You did not register at least half time (four units graduate, six units undergraduate)
2. You did not complete a FAFSA for the academic year
- A "Declined" status indicates you declined funds offered on your award letter.
