Advising Services
Advising is a key service designed to assist students during their entire academic career. Advisors advocate for all students with the goal of empowerment. Students are expected to take an active role in their education including attending classes, performing assigned work in a timely manner, participating in lectures and adhering to university policies and guidelines. The advisor clarifies the rights and responsibilities of the student and explains the university's expectations. They also work with students who have special academic needs or who are experiencing academic difficulty and can facilitate connections with programs designed to provide support for academic success.
Who is my advisor and why might my advisor change during my time at GGU?
Domestic prospective, newly admitted, and Open Enrollment students are assisted by
Enrollment Services advisors in gaining admission to a program, planning their course of study, answering questions regarding financial planning and academic policy, and providing guidance as they navigate the university's diverse programs and services.
Prospective and newly admitted students with international academic credentials will see an advisor in
International Admissions and Advising Services (IAA). Prospective and new international students with F or J visas work with an IAA advisor all the way through to graduation.
Student services advisors in the schools of accounting, business and taxation assist Undergraduate and Graduate students (including those with international academic credentials) beginning after the third week of the students first semester of classes and all the way through to graduation. The student and advisor work together to create a program of study that is suitable to the student's needs based on factors such as academic status and history, professional responsibilities, educational background and other factors. They also facilitate relationships with faculty, career counselors, financial planners and other student services.
Faculty advisors are available to answer questions about career planning and selecting courses for long-term career goals, academic advising, and questions about programs.
