Students: Golden Gate University Internship Program

Golden Gate University encourages students to perform for-credit internships in most academic programs and many students take advantage of this opportunity. Internships are mutually beneficial for both the student and employer. Students benefit by gaining "hands-on" experience in their field and internship employers receive valuable assistance with projects. Interns contribute cutting edge skills, motivation and new ideas to the organization, while gaining valuable experience in their industry.

Internship Orientation
GGU students who wish to do internships for academic credit must complete an Internship Orientation at least one term prior to starting an internship. Internship Orientations are held 24/7 through CyberCampus. To complete the Online Internship Orientation, go to ggucybercampus.org and log in with the user name ggucareers and the password online. After login, select CPOS Career Planning Online Seminars and then choose Internship Orientation. If you would like more information on the internship program and the process for completing a for-credit internship, please download the Internship Program Handout or contact Kayla Krupnick, the internship program coordinator, at kkrupnick@ggu.edu or (415) 442-7228.
What is an Internship?
A worksite learning opportunity and hands-on experience allowing you to apply classroom learning and develop skills/knowledge in a particular field or profession.

An internship should:
  • Build your resume
  • Help you decide on a job function or career path
  • Apply classroom theories to real life situations
The internship must represent a new and expanded learning experience. It should not be work you have already done or are currently doing. It also should be directly related to your major and/or career goal.

An internship is not a job. Internships can be unpaid and they are generally designed to give you experience in a new job function or gain new skills. Pay should not the primary motivation. Your supervisor is there to train and teach you and should have significant experience in your field of study.

Internships can be full time or part time and last up to 16 weeks. Internships typically begin the second week of September, January and May. However, you can begin an internship at any time during the trimester. For more information about Internship program requirements, download Internship Program Handout.
How do I find an Internship?
GGUCareers has many internship opportunities, both for-credit and not for-credit. You can also create your own internship by networking with employers. Consider attending a Professional Development Seminar for resume, cover letter, interview and job search tips. You can also make an appointment with a Career Advisor to discuss your internship search - email careers@ggu.edu or call (415) 442-7288 to set up a phone or in-person appointment.
