Writing Lab FAQs

Writing Lab tutors are professionals who have earned or are in the process of earning a graduate degree in English and have several years of tutoring or teaching experience. Some tutors also teach at GGU.

The Writing Lab is a support tool for students who want help improving their writing, reading, or speaking skills. Any student enrolled in a GGU class can use our services.

Students can see a tutor by booking an appointment or by dropping-in. To book an appointment, call 415-442-7299. For drop in appointments, see the tutoring schedule and stop by room 332 in the new Student Services Center at 40 Jessie Street, San Francisco.

Thirty minutes.

Bring your assignment and your draft, preferably typed and doublespaced, and specific questions you have. Prioritize your concerns, as the tutor may not be able to address every concern you have in thirty minutes. Try to book an appointment well ahead of the assignment's due date so you have time to revise and bring the revision back to the Center.

The Writing Lab is a learning tool, not a repair shop. We teach you how to identify your weaknesses and suggest ways to improve your writing. We do not edit.

Plan ahead so you don't find yourself in that position. Schedules are posted one week in advance. Try to anticipate when you'll need to work with a tutor and book in advance.
