2008 Commencement UpdatesDay of Commencement Handout 2008.doc Updated April 29th There are currently no tickets left for the San Francisco Commencement ceremony. A ten (10) pack of generic announcements will be sent to all students participating in commencement. If you are not participating in the commencement ceremony, but would like to receive a pack of announcements, you must send an e-mail request to commencement.If you would like to order personalized announcements, please visit Herff Jones. All students must reserve their cap (regalia)online by visiting Herff Jones. If you would like priority pick-up at the Grad Fair, you must reserve your regalia by March 2, 2008. If you would like to pick up your regalia after the Grad Fair at the bookstore, regional site or shipped to you (for a small fee), you must reserve your regalia by March 17, 2008. There is no charge for the regalia. However, there is a charge for shipping, if you elect to have it shipped you. The Grad Fair will be hosted at the San Francisco campus on Friday, April 11, 2008, from 3:30 - 5 pm. For more information about the fair, please download:Grad Finale Fair.doc The Class Speaker will deliver the Farewell Address at the Commencement Ceremony on behalf of the graduating class. If you are interested in being selected as Class Speaker, please downloaded the application: Class Speaker.doc. What are the awards given by GGU? Please contact your academic department directly to find out what awards are given to the outstanding student in the various degree programs and departments. Who selects the awards recipients? The deans and/or department heads. What is the selection process? Students are notified by mail of their nomination. Nominees will also receive an invitation to the Awards Ceremony.If I graduate in the Summer, will I be considered for any award or honors? Sorry, no. However, you may qualify for the following Spring graduation.If I graduate in the Summer, why must I wait until the following May to qualify for any of the awards? Students who graduate in the Summer 2005, Fall 2005 and Spring 2006 are a part of the 2006 academic term. If you want to receive awards at the graduation ceremony, it is better to wait until the 2007 graduation ceremony in order to avoid paying the graduation fee twice. The commencement program will then list your name as an award recipient. Who graduates with honors? Honors are awarded to bachelor's degree graduates who maintained cumulative grade point averages in their Golden Gate University courses as follows: cum laude, 3.50-3.74; magna cum laude, 3.75-3.89; summa cum laude, 3.90-4.00.Honors are awarded to master's degree graduates who maintained cumulative grade point averages in the Golden Gate University courses as follows: with honors, 3.800-3.899; with high honors, 3.900-3.999; with highest honors, 4.000. Honors designations do not apply to certificate programs, Associates or Doctoral degrees. Will I receive any recognition for graduating with honors at the commencement exercises? If you are a bachelor's or master's degree graduate, and you meet the honors criteria listed above, you will receive an honor cord to wear with your regalia when you pick up your tickets. How can I apply to participate in the commencement ceremony?
You may not participate in commencement unless you have applied for graduation. Information about applying can be found here.What does the $105 fee cover? The fee covers:
Students who have completed all of their degree requirements during the Summer 2007 or Fall 2007 trimester or planning to complete all of their degree requirements during the Spring 2008 or Summer 2008 trimesters only.Who should I contact if I have a question about my diploma? You may contact the Office of Records and Registration by calling 415-442-7200.Who should I contact if I have questions that cannot be found on this Web page about commencement? You may contact the Office of Student Affairs by calling 415-442-7299 or e-mail commencement.May I pay a partial fee if I do not attend the graduation ceremony? No. All degree candidates must pay the entire fee, whether or not they intend to participate in the commencement exercises.May students who attend other locations participate in the San Francisco Commencement Exercises? The Roseville, Monterey and San Jose locations have commencement exercises for their students. Only Walnut Creek, Seattle, Los Angeles, Cyber Campus and San Francisco students may attend the San Francisco Commencement Exercises. These locations do not have their own commencement exercises. |
