Smoking Policy

GENERAL - Golden Gate University makes every effort to provide a safe, secure and healthy environment for all of its students, employees, and visitors. In doing so, it fully supports, and complies with, all applicable laws and ordinances that govern smoking in the workplace. This policy applies to all university owned, leased or operated facilities and vehicles.

• SMOKING ON CAMPUS

1. Smoking is prohibited inside of the classrooms, labs, lecture halls, libraries, offices, lounges, lobbies, hallways, and inside of all work areas, equipment rooms and stairwells.
2. Smoking is also prohibited as follows: on all exterior balconies (except as noted below); on the entryway bridge leading up to the main entrance (Mission Street) of the Academic Building; on the Plaza Courtyard of the Academic Building; and within 25-feet of any exterior door, air intake vent, or food-beverage service operation.
3. Smoking is permitted at the San Francisco Campus as follows: Outside, on private balconies, so long as the presence of smoke does not affect any other person who may be present or in the area.
4. Where smoking is permitted, smokers must insure that smoke does not enter the building, and they must cease smoking if others in the area object.
5. The GGU Teaching Sites that operate leased-rented facilities must also comply with the smoking policy established for the property by the lessor and/or property management organization. If there is a conflict in the requirements of each policy, then the policy in effect for that specific property takes precedence.

• SMOKING IN VEHICLES - Smoking is prohibited at all times in all university owned, leased, rented or controlled vehicles regardless if the vehicle is occupied by one or more individuals.
• ADVERTISING AND SELLING TOBACCO PRODUCTS - The sale and advertising of tobacco products is prohibited in all university owned, leased, controlled or operated facilities to include those operated on behalf of the university (such as the University Bookstore and on-campus vending services).
