STUDENT LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP POLICY
GOLDEN GATE UNIVERSITY
EFFECTIVE SUMMER 2006
»
»
It is the policy of Golden Gate University to encourage active student participation in University governance through student participation in organized student government. To encourage students to participate in student leadership roles, Golden Gate University annually provides eight Student Leadership Scholarships (no more than four scholarships for Student Government and no more than four scholarships for Campus Currents.)
Golden Gate University awards Student Leadership Scholarships to a total of four students elected/appointed to officer positions in Student Government and to a total of four students appointed to leadership positions for Campus Currents. The student leaders will receive a $1500 scholarship per each trimester (reporting term).
Scholarships are awarded on the 16th instructional day of the trimester. The student must be enrolled in a minimum of six units per reporting term. The scholarship will be pro-rated if students are enrolled in their last term prior to graduation and enrolled in no less than three (3) but no more than six (6) units. In no case will the scholarship exceed the amount of tuition charged for that reporting term.
To activate the scholarships, the Associate Director of Student Life will provide the names and student identification numbers of the eight elected or appointed officers/leaders to the Financial Aid office. Each elected/appointed officer must complete a scholarship application/agreement each year.
Each elected/appointed officer must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements each trimester to qualify for the scholarship. SAP requires students to maintain their grade point average (3.0 for graduates and 2.0 for undergraduates) and they must earn 80% of units attempted. If students do not meet these requirements, they will become ineligible for the scholarship.
Scholarship awards will not be made or adjusted based on the performance of any particular officer. Awards may be adjusted if a student(s) is not financially eligible for a specified amount (0 to 6 units) of the award. In no case shall scholarship dollars be refunded to a student.
Officers may be removed from their positions in accordance with the guidelines of the Student Government Constitution. In these cases, students will not have to refund scholarships already awarded if they are removed after the refund period; however, they will not be eligible for future Student Government Leadership Scholarships (unless they are reinstated as a Student Government Officer).
A new officer elected or appointed after the 16th instructional day will not be eligible for the scholarship until the following trimester. Students are not eligible to receive any other institutional (gift and endowed or other aid) scholarship while receiving the Student Leadership Scholarship. If the student is awarded a scholarship from an external source and the donor specifies that the scholarship money be used for tuition only, the student will be ineligible for the Student Leadership Scholarship.
