James W. Hays, CPSM, CPM, has more than 20 years of experience in the purchasing profession as a government contracting officer, private sector buyer, supervisor and supply manager. He has served as executive director for the Institute of Supply Management -- Northern California (ISM-NC) since 1988. James has taught purchasing and supply management courses and conducted training courses for the US Postal Service, Pacific Bell, AT&T, Syntex Corp., PG&E, Bank of America, Visa International, InfoTech, a management consulting firm in Mexico City, and Lam Research. He recently taught CPM (Certified Purchasing Manager) and CPSM (Certified Professional Supply Manager) review courses for the US Postal Service and CSU-Hayward Extended Education. James served as an Air Force officer and lived and taught at a regional college in Spain for five years.
