Math Placement Test
The Math Placement Test is designed for undergraduate and graduate students who do not have college-level algebra with a transferable grade (C- or better) prior to course work at GGU. The exam is designed to place students into the appropriate starting point of the algebra sequence of classes.
Who needs to take the math placement test?
All undergraduate students with no transfer credit for any algebra courses.
Graduate students with no transfer credit for any algebra courses and a degree requirement of MATH 20 or MATH 30.

Scheduling a Math Placement or Proficiency Test
- Please call 415-442-6565 or email us for more information or to register for a test in San Francisco. Please bring a photo I.D. to the Undergraduate Programs suite, room 4337, at the San Francisco campus when you come in to take your test.
- To take the test remotely, please first read CyberCampus' information on proctored exams. Once you have an approved proctor, please send your proctor's contact information to undergrad@ggu.edu and your planned test date and time. Undergraduate Programs will send your proctor instructions and your test.
- The Placement test lasts 60 minutes, comprised of thirty multiple-choice questions covering basic algebra mechanics. Calculators may be used. No notes or other materials are allowed. There is no fee for the exam.
- The results of the exam will determine a student's placement into either MATH 10, MATH 20, or MATH 30. Alternatively, students who do not wish to take the placement exam may register for MATH 10.
- The Math Placement Test does NOT substitute for any math course and does NOT satisfy any math proficiency requirement
- The best way to prepare is to take the Math Placement Practice Test
- The Math 20 Proficiency test lasts 2 1/2 hours, comprised of 30 multiple-choice questions. Calculators may be used.
- The Math 30 Proficiency test lasts 2 1/2 hours, comprised of 30 multiple-choice questions. One 8 1/2 x 11" "cheat sheet" is allowed. Calculators may be used.
