General Access Policy
Access to Golden Gate University's Library is restricted to the following groups:
- GGU students who are currently enrolled or were enrolled the previous semester.
- GGU full-time faculty
- GGU part-time faculty
- The semester immediately preceding the semester they teach
- The semester they teach.
- The semester immediately following the semester they taught
- GGU trustees
- GGU staff
- GGU alumnae/alumni
- Corporate members who pay an annual fee
- Courtesy card holders.
It is very important for all registered users to keep their address and contact information current on GGU4U. The library uses the information from GGU4U to contact library patrons concerning materials and policies.A valid GGU ID is required for entry to the Library. Library cards are non-transferable.Staff and faculty who need to introduce guests to the Library should call 415-442-7242 to contact the Access Services Librarian, the Circulation Assistant, or the Library Director. Questions about the Library's access policy may be addressed to the Access Services Librarian or the Library Director, current students, staff, and faculty, as well as alumni. Due to heightened security measures, a University affiliated ID card is required to enter the library building.
Accessing Databases / Remote Access to the Library
Due to restrictions of our database contracts - only current students, staff, and faculty have remote access to the electronic resources of the University Library. Alumni, corporate members, etc. can only use the databases in the physical library (no remote access).To access the databases remotely, you must have your student or faculty ID number. The number can be found on the front of your GGU photo ID card. After you click on the title of the database, you will be asked for this number as well as your last name. If you encounter any problems, please contact a librarian at 415-442-7244 or through email at askalibrarian@ggu.edu.
Accessing Electronic Reserves
Many GGU Instructors offer materials through Electronic Reserves. These items are restricted to enrolled students in the particular class.

Library Materials Policy
Borrowing Materials
Only registered users (see above) may borrow materials from the library. Although users have access to the library, they may not be able to borrow materials. Length for Borrowing Materials
The different materials of the library have varied borrowing times.
- Regular Books = 21 days
- Videos / DVDs = 2 Days
- Reserve Materials = 2 hours, 2 days , or 7 days.
Renewing Materials
Materials may be renewed three times before it is necessary to return the items to the library. Renewals may be done over the phone (415-442-7242) or online by clicking here.
Overdue Fines
If items are overdue, they will accrue fines at the following rates:
- 2 hour Reserve Items = $.25 per hour
- 2, 7 and 21 day Items = $.25 per day
- Recalled Items = $1.00 per day

Cell Phone Policy
Although cell phone use is not banned in the library, we respectfully request that all phone calls be taken outside of the library building. This helps ensure that the library remain an area conducive for study and research. Thank you for your cooperation.
Food and Drink Policy
University Library Food and Drink Policy
- Drinks in securely-covered containers are permitted in the Library.
- Food is not permitted.
Please take care to avoid spills. In case of an accidental spill, please immediately notify library staff (at Circulation or Reference Desk) so that it can be cleaned up as quickly as possible.This policy is meant to promote a welcoming environment for research and study. Restrictions on the consumption of food and drink are necessary because their presence can potentially damage Library property. If not discarded properly, food and drink can invite pest infestation that can cause widespread damage to the Library's equipment and print collections.We appreciate your cooperation.

Noise Policy
It is the University Library's goal to provide a comfortable, welcoming environment where individuals and groups can work effectively and efficiently. In order to ensure a pleasant library experience for everyone, please be considerate of other library users by keeping noise to a minimum. Although group work is allowed in the library, disruptive behavior or disturbances of any kind are unacceptable. On the other hand, talking is permitted as the library is a teaching space and librarians must talk to assist users in utilizing the library's resources. The University Library's designated silent study area is located in the upper mezzanine. Please notify library staff if noise is bothering you so that we may ensure that everyone may equally enjoy the library's services and collections.Please remember to:
- Turn off the ringer on your cell phone.
- Do not engage in long cell phone conversations. If you must use your cell phone please do so outside of the library. Be sure not to leave your belongings unattended.
- Monitor the volume on your iPod or other personal entertainment devices.
- Use quiet "indoor" voices when working in groups.
Anyone failing to adhere to this policy may be asked to leave the library.

Wireless Policy
Wireless access is available throughout most of the library (some areas have stronger coverage than others). You must have a valid GGU4U account and a wireless card for access.

Study Groups and Quiet Areas
- There is one closed area in the library available for group study. It is available by appointment only and reservations are taken on a first-come, first served basis. For more information, please contact a librarian at 415-442-7244 or through email at askalibrarian@ggu.edu.
- The quiet area of the library is located in the back mezzanine area of the library. All computers, cell phones, and other noise distractions are prohibited in this area.
