What are Course Reserves?
Course Reserves are items which your professor has chosen for your course and placed in the library for access. These items can be recommended or required books/articles, study guides, textbooks, or sample papers. Some reserve items are available only in the library while others can be accessed electronically (called Electronic Reserves).
How do I find something on Reserve?
Usually, the syllabus or your professor will mention that the item is "on reserve" at the library. You can use the library catalog to search for items on reserve using the name of your course or your instructor's last name.
- Finding Reserves Using the Course Name
- Go to the Library Catalog.
- Click on Course Name
- Type the course name and number (i.e. MKT 300) to retrieve the reserve items for that course.
- Finding Reserves Using the Instuctor Name
- Go to the Library Catalog.
- Click on Instructor
- Type the last name of your instructor to retrieve a listing of all the courses that professor is teaching.
- Select your course from the lisitng to retreive the reserve items for that course.
Where are Reserves located?
Reserve items are held at the Circulation Desk on the first floor of the University Library. You will need your University ID card in order to use them.
How do I use Electronic Reserves?
Once you retrieve the reserve listings for your course, you may see that the format column indicates an "Electronic Copy is Available." If this is the case, you may access the reserve article electronically from any computer.
- Click on the title of the item you want to view.
- Click on the link to Print or View the item.
- Log in using your last name and Student ID Number.
- Once you log in, the item will open on your computer screen.
(Most reserve items will require the Adobe Reader. If you do not have a copy of the Adobe Reader, visit the Adobe Reader Home Page for a free download).
Can I take reserve items from the library?
Items that are available electronically can be viewed through your computer by logging in with your last name student ID number. If the item you need is on reserve in the library, you may use it for up to 2 hours but cannot take it from the library building.
