INTRODUCTION  

As you well know, the majority of finance research involves finding the numbers and figures for companies and industries. The following research guide highlights the library's resources in this area. In addition, there is a section on finding articles in finance. The majority of these databases contain articles from finance related peer reviewed journals and popular magazines (i.e. Economist). These can be helpful if concepts or evidence is needed to explain a position.

OneSourceOneSource provides access to financial information for over 3.7 million global companies, 45,000 of which are public; annual reports, ratio data, executive information, analyst reports, and recent developments are all available in this database, among many other features. Financial data can be downloaded and exported into Excel. Tax Resources on the WebThis list of resources, maintained by the GGU School of Taxation, contains numerous links to various taxation websites. Some gems include gateway sites as well as links to the texts of Treasury Regulations and the Internal Revenue Code.
New Palgrave Dictionary of Money and FinanceThis 3 volume Reference book is the authoritative dictionary on many subjects in the world of finance. Each article can be several pages long and will list the seminal works and authors on a particular subject. An excellent starting point to your research.

Public company filings required by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) archived back to 1993.
ValueLineProvides investment analysis, research and advice on 1,700 stocks and 90 industries. Research for options, exchange-traded funds and mutual funds.
Morningstar (Library Edition)Tracks mutual funds, stocks and other managed investments. Screens more than 18,000 stocks and funds using dozens of criteria and provides analyst opinions on 1000 stocks and 2000 funds.
Company WebsiteIt is always a good idea to check the "investor's relations" section on the company website. This section can tell you what the business places the most value on or sees as their core business. Reading the glossy reports (more than just the 10-k) is an excellent way to gather intelligence.

INDUSTRY FINANCIAL DATA AND RATIOS  
  
Standard & Poor's Net Advantage__Search for surveys of U.S. industries, financial and directory information on U.S. companies and profiles of mutual funds.

Industry Norms and Key Business RatiosProduced by Dun and Bradstreet and organized by SIC, this guide includes "typical" balance sheet entries and financial ratios for the vast majority of businesses. It is a great resource for judging what is "typical" in a certain business sector...
RMAOrganized by NAICS code, this classic Finance tool offers general ratio information for companies in hundreds of industries. Some of the ratios included are: liquidity, leverage, & operating. The ratios are composites compiled from banks and other financial institutions. They represent excellent guidelines for studying industry ratios.
IBISWorldThe IBISWorld US Industry Reports Database provides access to information on many industries in the US Economy including over 700 reports categorized by the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS). Each IBISWorld report is updated every four months and provides an overview of the industry, competitor information, market share data, and more.

Lexis-Nexis StatisticalProvides detailed abstracts to statistics produced by the U.S. Government, major international intergovernmental organizations, professional and trade organizations, commercial publishers, independent research organizations, state government agencies and universities.
ProquestProvides full text journal, magazine, and newspaper articles including the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times. Offers access to scholarly and general interest literature in business, social sciences, science and technology, and humanities. [quick guide]
Business Source Complete (via EBSCO)Provides full text for nearly 8,200 business serials including Harvard Business Review. Additional full text content includes market research reports, industry reports, country reports, company profiles and SWOT analysis. Accounting Research ManagerAccounting Research Manager (ARM) from CCH is a comprehensive financial reporting database providing materials designed to help solve accounting issues. ARM contains the full-text of the most important documents produced by the FASB, AICPA, EITF, and IASB. In addition, ARM contains accounting, auditing, government, and regulatory information.
Library CatalogThe library catalog will show what books or journal titles the library owns. Do not be afraid of Books! If you are studying/ researching a particular area of finance (i.e. valuation), a book can be a wonderful way to find out more about the particular subject.
