INTRODUCTION 

The purpose of this guide is to help direct you to the library resources that are most applicable for your Operations Management research. This guide is broken down into five sections based on the kind of information you will be asked to find. These sections are:

Section 1: Finding books in the library and online
Section 2: Finding a specific publication in the library or online
Section 3: Finding articles in journals, magazines, newspapers, and trade publications
Section 4: Finding company information
Section 5: Finding industry information
Suggested websites on OP topics

You can use this guide in the order it was written, or jump to the section that fits the project you are working on. Remember that the library is here to make things easier for you!

Before beginning your research, it is helpful to consult with one of our librarians at the Reference Desk to map out a strategy and choose which type of information source is best for your research. SECTION 1: FINDING BOOKS IN THE LIBRARY AND ONLINE 

Your professor has listed different titles in the Course Home section. To locate these books in the library you can search our catalog OR to see if we have them online you can search our database of electronic books: Ebrary.

GGU Library Catalog
Search by Title
Search by Subject Heading - use this search when looking for books on a specific topic. Subject headings are assigned for each book based on the topic they are on. Subject headings for this class include: business logistics, materials management, shipment of goods, inventory control
Search by Keyword - use this search to look for books, keywords searching matches the words you type in to any word in the title or book description.

Ebrary
Search by keyword - Ebrary is the library's database of electronic books. You can search through over 25,000 titles for books on the topic you are researching. Also useful when look for case studies or examples of company and industry supply chains. To view the book in Ebrary, you need to download the Ebrary Reader from the link on the first page of the database. SECTION 2 : LOCATING A SPECIFIC PUBLICATION IN THE LIBRARY OR ONLINE 

In the Course Overview, your professor has listed some titles of helpful periodicals you may want to use in this class. We have a lot of magazines and journals available online through our databases, while some are still only available in print in the library. This section will help you locate what you are looking for.

GGU Library Catalog
Search by Title, this search will give you the location of the title in the library using a call number.

Online in the library databases:
Go to http://www.ggu.edu/university_library and click on the link for Journals by Title OR go directly to http://vu6nt9nu4a.search.serialssolutions.com/

Search for the title of the journal, magazine, newspaper, or trade publication you are looking for. This search will show you which database has the full text of the publication and what dates are covered.

Suggested titles include:

Air Cargo World
Air Transport World
American Shipper

*Note about Interlibrary Loans for books and articles - If the library does not have the article or book you need in the library or online, we can request if from another library on your behalf. This is a free service, and you can fill out the online form for these requests at: Interlibrary Loan

SECTION 3 : FINDING ARTICLES IN JOURNALS, MAGAZINES, NEWSPAPERS, AND TRADE PUBLICATIONS 

Articles are a good way to find information on a company or industry, especially if you are searching for really recent news developments or information on small, niche industries and markets. These two databases are great starting points when searching for articles on a specific topic.

Business Source Complete
After your search, you can click on the links at the top of the results list to narrow your search for academic journals, trade publications, company profiles, SWOT analysis, and product reviews. To find information on a specific company, type in the name of the company and use the drop down menu in the search screen to limit your search to CO Company Entity. (Click on Academic Journals and select Business Source Complete.)

Proquest
Provides full text journal, magazine, and newspaper articles including the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times. Offers access to scholarly and general interest literature in business, social sciences, science and technology, and humanities.

SECTION 4 : FINDING COMPANY INFORMATION 

Business Source Complete
To find information on a specific company, type in the name of the company and use the drop down menu in the search screen to limit your search to CO Company Entity. From the result list, you can click on the links at the top of the list for company profiles, SWOT analysis, and product reviews. (Click on Academic Journals and select Business Source Complete.)

OneSource
OneSource provides access to financial information for over 3.7 million global companies, 45,000 of which are public; annual reports, ratio data, executive information, analyst reports, and recent developments are all available in this database, among many other features. Financial data can be downloaded and exported into Excel. Note: to access OneSource, click on "Search More info" next to International Databases; or, select "International Databases from the drop-down menu at the top of the screen.

Faulkner
Great for technology or telecommunications companies, Faulkner provides comprehensive reports covering computer system software, networking, telecom technologies, trends, vendor profiles, product solutions, and security management practices. (After choosing Faulkner Technology, click on FACCTS to enter the database).

SECTION 5 : FINDING INDUSTRY INFORMATION 

IBISWorld
This database includes over 700 reports categorized by the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS). Each IBISWorld report is updated every four months and provides an overview of the industry, competitor information, market share data, and more. Reports can be viewed online, or downloaded in Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat PDF.

Standard & Poor's Net Advantage
The Standard & Poor's Industry Surveys are great tools to use to find industry analysis, leading companies, industry publications and associations, and current trends. In the database, select your industry using the drop down menu under Industry Surveys on the right side of the screen. These reports also include a section on how to analyze a company in the given industry.

Mintel
Mintel is a database of market research reports and industry news. The reports offer detailed analysis of the industry, main competitors, and consumer in a given market. Search the database using the 'quick search' box in the upper right corner, or browse through the list of reports using the links in the center of the screen. (Note: When using Mintel, you need to click on I Accept on the terms of use page after logging in, and then register for your own Mintel log in using your email address.)

Faulkner

ACCESSING LIBRARY DATABASES

All the databases listed can be accessed through this link: http://www.ggu.edu/university_library/find/find_databases/in_alphabetical_order. Once you click on the name of a database, you will need to enter your last name and student ID number (located on the front of your ID card) or CyberCampus username. Be sure to type in ALL 7 digits of your ID number, including the starting 0. Ex.: 0123456.
