UNIVERSITY LIBRARY BIDS 'FAIR WELL' TO DEPARTING STAFF; WELCOMES NEW LIBRARIAN

It is with mixed feelings that the University Library announces the departure of four valuable members of our staff: Christina Goff, Research Instruction and Reference Librarian; Sarah Marks, Electronic Services and Reference Librarian; Dolores Neese, Sr
Library Assistant and Interlibrary Loan Specialist; and Trent Garcia, part-time Reference Librarian. While we are sad they are leaving the library, we are happy they are going to exciting and challenging new ventures. We wish them all the best.

The University Library also welcomes Melissa Beuoy, our new reference and instruction librarian.

CHRISTINA GOFF to Los Medanos College

by Sarah Marks

It is with bittersweet emotion that the University Library says goodbye to Christina Goff (nee Calavano), GGU Reference and Instruction Librarian. Having worked in the library for the past 6 years, Christina created a terrific instruction program that has set the standard for GGU. Christina brought to GGU a love for teaching and an ability to reach the diverse GGU community with effectiveness and ease. Students and faculty often come to the reference desk specifically asking for Christina to assist them. She is a favorite librarian due to her warmth, friendliness, excellent service, and her extensive knowledge of GGU curricula. Her sincere interest in students' research has also made her a valuable member of the GGU Library team.

Notably, Christina worked with CyberCampus instructional designer Kim Barber on the creation of an Online Research Skills Course that is still widely used. Together they presented a paper based on their experience at the 2004 Evergreen Education ITIE International Conference in China and later at the 2004 Internet Librarian conference in Monterey.

Whether teaching a library instruction course, giving a workshop, or taking new students on a library tour, Christina's repertoire of humorous anecdotes and witty observations make everyone smile. She has been a key player in making the library an approachable, friendly place, and has led the way in faculty-librarian collaborations.

We are excited for Christina in her next endeavor as the Research and Instruction Librarian at Los Medanos College in Pittsburg, CA. Christina's last day at GGU will be July 13th. Please join us in wishing her the best in her new position!

SARAH MARKS to The Urban School of San Francisco

by Christina Goff

For the last two years, the GGU University Library has been fortunate to have Sarah Marks as our Reference and Research Instruction Librarian. It is with excitement for Sarah, and sadness for the library, that we are announcing her departure. Sarah will be the new Head Librarian at The Urban School of San Francisco.

During her time with us, Sarah contributed her time and expertise to help develop many Library projects and services. Under her leadership, the Library was able to launch our "Find Journals by Title" listing and the ArticleLinker capabilities allowing our users to search across article databases. Sarah was also instrumental in creating a new location for the University Archives and has worked to ensure the University's history will not be forgotten. Sarah has been an inspiration to her fellow librarians by tackling each new project with enthusiasm and focus.

In addition to the work she has done behind the scenes in the Library, Sarah is a student and faculty favorite both at the reference desk and in the classroom. She combines her approachability with an expert knowledge that has served many over the years. Even in her short time here at GGU, she has made many fans and will be missed by all.

TRENT GARCIA to San Francisco Public Library, Main

"I'll be moving on to a full-time position at SFPL's Main library as the State Documents/Digital Repository Librarian. While I will not be scheduled for regular shifts on the Reference Desk at the GGU Library, I will be "on call" to work the desk from time to time.

I'd like the students and staff to know that it is with a hearty helping of sadness that I leave GGU. My time here has been most enjoyable and in particular my interactions with the students has enriched my life and broadened my understanding of the world of business. I will miss you all tremendously.

You can reach me at jgarcia@sfpl.org or in person at the reference desk on the 5th floor of the Main library."---Trent

DOLORES NEESE To Pursue Other Interests

by Janice Carter

Library staff are also profoundly grateful to Dolores Neese, whose dedication, kindness, and calmness have helped shape library services, fostered the development of academic and professional success for students and faculty, and created friends throughout the world for the University Library and the University community.

Dolores Neese has opened up a world of resources to the University community through her work to make most interlibrary loan and document delivery resources available without charge to students, faculty and staff. She has also played a vital role in providing reference services and services to corporate members. Library staff greatly appreciate her quiet, calm efficiency and dedication, and the administrative work she has done to keep the library running smoothly.

Having dedicated many years to the University and to the Library, Dolores leaves GGU to pursue her many other interests. We wish her a warm and heartfelt fare well. We will truly miss her but will do our best to continue building on the legacy she has created.

MELISSA BEUOY Joins University Library Staff

The University Library staff are delighted to welcome Melissa Beuoy as Research Instruction Librarian. Melissa comes to us after close to two years in the GGU Law Library. She looks forward to developing relationships with GGU students and faculty and to assist with their research instruction needs. Melissa is working closely with Christina Goff and Sarah Marks, to ensure continuity of quality services. Other new library staff will be joining us in September.

Christina's and Sarah's last day with the library will be Friday, July 13; Trent and Dolores have already left GGU.

The University Library would like you to know that it is committed to carry on the outstanding work left by our departing staff.

SCANNERS NOW AVAILABLE AT THE UNIVERSITY LIBRARY

The document feed scanner that the Student Government donated to the University Library last month is now available. This scanner can take a stack of loose printed sheets, very quickly scan them in, and produce an editable text or PDF file. The Library has also purchased a flatbed scanner for student and staff use. The scanning station has been set up next to the Reference Desk so staff will be available to assist should questions arise.

Both scanners are attached to a networked PC which will be used as a dedicated scanning station. With this configuration students and staff will be able to scan either loose sheets of paper or pages in books and magazines. As the scanner will be networked, library users shall also have the option of emailing the resulting files.

FOOD for THOUGHT

The trouble with so many of us is that we underestimate the power of simplicity. We have a tendency it seems to over complicate our lives and forget what's important and what's not. We tend to mistake movement for achievement. We tend to focus on activities instead of results. And as the pace of life continues to race along in the outside world, we forget that we have the power to control our lives regardless of what's going on outside.
