MEET OUR NEW WEB LIBRARIAN, MARGOT HANSON

I'm delighted to join the Golden Gate University Library ohana as the new Web Services Librarian. I hear wonderful things about Gene Springs and I will do my best to live up to the standards he had for this role. I look forward to meeting and working with students, staff and faculty in the University.

I'm originally from Northern California, graduated from UC Berkeley for my undergraduate degree in English Literature, and moved to Hawaii in 2005 to pursue Library and Information Science. I graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 2007 and worked as a librarian for two years in the University of Hawaii system before moving back to California this fall. My personal interests include eating, reading and knitting.

Please introduce yourself to me when you see me, and let's get to know each other!

REFWORKS GOES MOBILE

Now when you do your research on BART or on the beach, or anywhere else you take your mobile phone or PDA, you can access, organize, annotate, and share your research results using RefWorks. Because the access is via the Web, you don't need to sync-you are already in sync! Check it out at www.refworks.com/mobile. Just don't use it while you are driving. We believe in work-life integration, not work-life SMASH UP!

Not yet using RefWorks? Click on the RefWorks link on the University Library homepage, or consult with a reference librarian to see how RefWorks can help you organize your research and cite resources appropriately. RefWorks is one of the many resources and tools the University Library provides to help you shine.

We have an ever-growing collection of online research guides available at http://ggu.libguides.com/ that you can access 24/7, no password required. You can also contact the reference desk by emailing askalibrarian@ggu.edu or calling 415-442-7244. Librarians are eager to work with you!

FOOD for THOUGHT

compiled by Alice Dietrich

ANIMALS

It is an important and popular fact that things are not always what they seem. For instance, on the planet Earth, man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much - the wheel, New York, wars and so on - whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man - for precisely the same reasons.
--Douglas Adams, The Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Man is rated the highest animal, at least among all animals who returned the questionnaire.
--Robert Brault, www.robertbrault.com

I have been studying the traits and dispositions of the "lower animals" (so called) and contrasting them with the traits and dispositions of man. I find the result humiliating to me.
--Mark Twain, Letters from the Earth, 1907

I like pigs. Dogs look up to us. Cats look down on us. Pigs treat us as equals.
--Winston Churchill

If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the principal difference between a dog and a man.
--Mark Twain
