VIDEOS IN THE LIBRARY

Most folks know they can go to their local public library and borrow videos for home viewing. But did you know the University Library also has videos?

As would be expected many of the videos in the Library deal with business practices or are tutorials, including some great ones for mathematics. Among the tutorial videos we even have some by John Cleese, such as Meetings, Bloody Meetings, and by Lily Tomlin such as her Customer Service Training series. Then there are great film titles that were purchased for classes on the workplace in cinema. These range from that classic work on American capitalism, The Godfather, to the 2003 Oscar winning feature on a young girl's entry into the workplace Spirited Away. Also available are documentaries such as The Smartest Guys in the Room and Bowling for Columbine. So if you are looking for something to show a class or for some home viewing with family and friends remember the University Library.

How do you find what titles we have in the Library?

Simple. For a list of DVD discs do a subject search for Digital Video Discs (University Library), for a list of VHS tapes do a subject search for Videocassettes (University Library) and then bookmark the search results for easy access in the future.

All circulating videos go out for two days so be sure to bring them back on time. Also, a few select titles cannot leave the campus due to contract agreements with the producers.

FOOD for THOUGHT

The world is full of human lobsters; men stranded on the rocks of indecision and procrastination, who, instead of putting forth their own energies, are waiting for some grand billow of good fortune to set them afloat. ---Orison Swett Marden

Delay is the deadliest form of denial. ---C. Northcote Parkinson

There is no moment like the present. The man who will not execute his resolutions when they are fresh upon him can have no hope from them afterwards: they will be dissipated, lost, and perish in the hurry and scurry of the world, or sunk in the slough of indolence. ---Maria Edgeworth

If you keep thinking about what you want to do or what you hope will happen, you don't do it, and it won't happen. ---Joe Dimaggio

Problem is there are too many sissies and prima donnas -- stop talking and get it done. ---Marcelle Orlando McGuire, American author and producer

BACK ISSUES of

SITE OF THE MONTH

Offered by the same folks who publish Variety, VideoBusiness.com is a mother lode of articles and statistics on all aspects of the video industry -- from players to games to DVD's.

News articles are categorized under studios/suppliers, retail, high-def, technology, VOD/downloads and videogames. The Market Data section will give some quarterly sales figures and sales rankings while the Resources area (probably not very comprehensive) provides a list of videogame publishers, wholesalers, organizations and DVD e-zines, among other headings.

And of course you can post comments to articles.

FISH SCHOOL

CATCH THE SPIRIT! RELEASE THE POTENTIAL! HAVE FUN AT WORK AS YOU PROVIDE SUPERIOR SERVICE!

Join us for a viewing of Fish! September 12, 2007, 12 noon, Room 4203. You are welcome to bring your lunch. Sodas, Pepperidge Farm Goldfish, and popcorn will be served.
This showing of Fish! is sponsored by the University Library in support of the University's emphasis on quality service.

Why Fish!?

"Seattle's world-famous Pike Place Fish Market is an otherwise ordinary fish market that's extraordinarily successful. The work is hard and the hours are long-yet these employees make a personal choice to bring amazing passion, playfulness, commitment and a positive attitude to work every day. This is the exciting-and extremely entertaining-basis of the FISH! movie. And now, like thousands of other organizations worldwide, including Saturn, Sprint and Southwest Airlines, you too can tap into the secrets of creating a super-satisfying work environment and even more delighted customers." SAVE A LIFE!

The Blood Centers of the Pacific coach is coming to Golden Gate University. The Coach will be parked in front of Golden Gate University, 536 Mission, San Francisco on Wednesday, September 5 from 10 am to 2 pm.

"Whether it's a seven year-old battling leukemia, a father of four injured in a serious car accident or a 65 year-old woman having heart surgery, every day, hundreds of people in our communities need blood - and there is no substitute for it. Blood Centers of the Pacific provides the critical link between blood donors who generously give the gift of life and the local patients who need this lifesaving gift." (excepted from the BCP website)

When you donate blood, you will also get free total cholesterol testing. To sweeten the deal even further, BCP will give you a free ticket to the movies; bring a friend and they will give you two!
