Edward Hazel

Professor Hazel has been a lawyer for more than 32 years, including work in private practice where, as a civil litigator, he handled a wide variety of cases in fields such as medical malpractice, public entity tort defense and asbestos litigation. Following private practice, Professor Hazel joined the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office where, for more than 29 years, he handled virtually all types of cases, from DUI to murder. He successfully prosecuted several high profile cases including torture, adult and child sexual assault and complex fraud.

  • 2007 - Present: Adjunct Professor Golden Gate University, Monterey, CA Campus. Developed and presented a graduate level class entitled Public Service and the Law as part of the Executive Masters of Public Administration program.
  • 2015 - 2017: Adjunct Professor Monterey Peninsula College. Presented classes on Constitutional Law and Criminal Procedure.
  • 2008 - 2009: Adjunct Professor Monterey College of Law, Monterey, CA. Developed and presented class entitled Advanced Criminal Law to third and fourth year law school students.

  • 2014: Received Outstanding Adjunct Faculty award, Edward S. Ageno, School of Business, Executive Master of Public Administration, Golden Gate University, San Francisco, CA.
  • 1997: Received Award for the Most Significant High Technology Case, 1997, High Tech Criminal Investigators Association.
  • 1997: Received Monterey County Department of Social Services Award-Child Abuse Prevention Council.
  • 1996: Received award as member of Most Outstanding Criminal Prosecution Team, Monterey County.
  • 1993: Received award from California Narcotic Canine Investigator Association.
  • 1991: Selected as one of ten prosecutors nationwide to sit on a national legislative steering committee of the National Association of Attorney's General, Washington D.C. for the development of money laundering legislation, and the preparation of a money laundering prosecution program manual.
