Jim Hays, CPSM, C.P.M. has over 20 years experience in the purchasing and supply management
profession as a government contracting officer and private sector buyer, supervisor
and manager. He has served as executive director for the Institute of Supply Management-Northern
California (ISM-NC) since 1988. He has taught purchasing and supply management courses
for Cal-State East Bay, U.C. Berkeley Extension, San Francisco State University, De
Anza College, and conducted training courses for the U.S. Postal Service, Pacific
Bell, AT&T, Syntex Corp., PG&E, Bank of America, Visa International, InfoTech, a management
consulting firm in Mexico City, and Lam Research. He has recently taught C.P.M. (Certified
Supply Manager and CPSM (Certified Professional Supply Manager) Review courses for
the U.S. Postal Services and CSU-Hayward Extended Education. He has a B.A. from the
University of Wyoming and an M.A. from San Francisco State University.
Jim Has been active in the Bay Area Supply Management/Contracting community for more
than twenty years. He has served as a government contracting officer, private sector
buyer, purchasing supervisor and supply manager. For much of that time he has concurrently
taught supply management and related courses at local universities and as a corporate
trainer. Prior to that, he served as an Air Force Officer and lived and taught at
a college in Spain.
