Katherine Chen has 15+ years of experience in capital markets, consumer banking, mobile payment, and financial technology.
Katherine started her career as an Institutional Fixed Income Product Manager at Salomon Brothers Asset Management. With the Citigroup merger of Smith Barney, Travelers, and Citibank, Katherine moved to the Corporate Strategy Group at Citigroup evaluating expansion, acquisition, and divestitures of various corporate and consumer financial products businesses across globe. She later became the Director of Product for Consumer Finance responsible for product strategy and business planning for the subprime & unbanked consumer lending business in 7 markets in Asia and Eastern Europe with $2B in lending receivables, $500MM in revenues, and $100MM in net income.
At American Express, Katherine was a CFO for Marketing & Technology units of Global Corporate Card business and a Strategy Director for Corporate Treasury. She revamped funding & capital management strategy during 2008 financial crisis and was involved in re-chartering the company under Bank Holdings Company Act. Most recently, Katherine was the General Manager for digital & mobile payment capture for the Global Cards business with $240B payments and 100+MM transactions for 15MM card members annually.
In her last role at Softcard (a mobile payment wallet startup acquired by Google), Katherine was the Product Lead responsible for 3MM cards added in 18 months with 20%+ monthly active; and managed prepaid card partnerships with American Express and Chase, and commerce partnerships with McDonald, Coke, Jamba Juice, and various regional Quick Service Restaurants.
Currently, Katherine runs a mobile payments & banking consulting and app development practice in San Francisco. She is also the CEO of Hummings, a startup using digital technologies to simplify personal finance planning and wealth accumulation.
Katherine has a MBA from Wharton and a BS from Cornell. She is a CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst)
