(Effective Fall 2014) Examines purchasing management's role in global supply chain management to accomplish the organization's strategy for a competitive advantage. Included are defining the requirements for materials and services, spend analysis, selecting, evaluating and developing global suppliers, establishing the correct types of trust-based supplier relationships, utilizing technology effectively and making fact-based decisions. Teaches the integration of purchasing with the other activities in global supply chain management to create a systems approach from resources to consumption. Future issues of resource opportunities, transportation issues, government regulations, environmental obligations, contract management and fair labor practices will be covered.
