Johanna K. P. Dennis

Professor Johanna Dennis is Associate Director for Legal Writing and Research and an Associate Professor of Law. She works with the Director of Legal Writing in developing upper-division legal writing courses, teaches legal writing and intellectual property law courses.

Professor Dennis draws on a range of experiences in law teaching, as she has served on the faculties at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock's Bowen School of Law, Northeastern University School of Law, Southern Illinois University School of Law, Southern University Law Center, Vermont Law School, Touro College -- Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center, and Florida A&M University College of Law.

She has taught courses in legal writing, environmental law, patent law, and law and medicine. She has substantial practice experience in immigration law and has technical expertise in chemistry, molecular biology, and FDA regulation of clinical trials and product development.

Professor Dennis's publications span the fields of intellectual property-biotechnology, immigration law, and teaching pedagogy. She has coached, supported, and judged law school teams in regional and national moot court competitions. Prior to entering academia, Professor Dennis clerked for the Honorable William P. Gilroy (Ret.) in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Appellate Division, and she worked on civil service employment appeals with the State of New Jersey, Department of Personnel, Division of Merit System Practices and Labor Relations (now Civil Service Commission). Professor Dennis is admitted to the Pennsylvania bar, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
