Adjunct Professor Nicholas Baran is a semi-retired attorney and former computer magazine
editor and author. He has represented immigration clients before the U.S. Court of
Appeals, Ninth Circuit, and continues to volunteer regularly at pro bono legal clinics
in San Francisco and Oakland. Professor Baran was the Supervising Attorney for Family
Law at the San Francisco Bar Association's Justice and Diversity Center, before retiring
in 2012. Professor Baran teaches Legal Writing and Research and Appellate Advocacy.
Professor Baran is the author of several books covering computer technology, and has
been writing and editing for most of his professional career. Before attending law
school, he held editorial positions at
BYTE Magazine,
Windows NT Systems, and
Dr. Dobb's Journal.
Professor Baran holds BA and BS degrees from Stanford University, and a Juris Doctor
degree from U.C. Hastings College of the Law.
