Anna Benvenue is an Associate Professor at GGU Law where she teaches Civil Procedure, Constitutional Issues in Immigration Law and Criminal Law. She is also the Director of JD Flex, an innovative hybrid online J.D. program. JD Flex offers students a rigorous legal education and the opportunity to specialize in specific career tracks without attending any in-person classes during the week.

Prior to joining the faculty at GGU Law, Professor Benvenue spent more than a decade as a legal advocate advancing the rights of immigrants. At a leading deportation defense firm in San Francisco, Professor Benvenue represented hundreds of clients in deportation hearings, administrative appeals, petitions for review before the Circuit Court and in federal court litigation against the Department of Homeland Security. An experienced trial and appellate litigator, Professor Benvenue has briefed dozens of cases in the Ninth Circuit and presented oral argument at least fifteen times resulting in multiple published cases includingAli v. Holder, 637 F. 3d 1025 (9th Cir. 2011), Ramirez v. Lynch, 810 F.3d 1127 (9th Cir. 2016), Allen v. Milas, 896 F.3d 1094 (9th Cir. 2018), and Janjua v. Neufeld, 933 F.3d 1061 (9th Cir. 2019). She also served as the Director of Immigration Legal Services at an East Bay non-profit organization providing free immigration assistance to thousands of immigrants in California and was an attorney advisor at the San Francisco Immigration Court.
